OSU will receive 2012 bowl ban

We're talking about lying and deceiving the governing body of the sport in an attempt to cover up infractions. They are VERY lucky they didn't get hit with a lack of institutional control...

Yup!

Some are saying do not believe the "disappointed" comments from OSU. They're really thrilled.

Most OSU fans are disappointed. They’re disappointed at the players who knowingly broke the rules, at Smith, and at Tressell for not doing the right thing. However, there is optimism at what the future may hold.

From what I have heard 95% of the incoming freshman are still on board with the Buckeyes. Pittman said he and his coach will contact Urban in the morning but everything is fine. Dunn has not made an official statement but sources say he is still a Buckeye. All of the other kids are on board!

This will have very little impact, similar to USC. Until the NCAA puts some serious punishments out there these light punishments will simply be a bump in the road to major programs.

I would say the majority of incoming Freshman are reds shirted anyways, so I am not seeing it as a big deterrent in that respect.

It is a fine line. I hear what you are saying, on the other hand how crippling do you make it for the vast majority of guys who are innocent and those guilty have moved on.

Someone clarify this for me. When you take a scholarship hit like this, is it the total amount of scholarships you hand out is decreased, or the # of scholarships you can have on roster the next season is decreased?

Say you take a 4 scholarship hit. Can you take away 4 scholarships from guys you never see as contributing and give it to an incoming Freshman. Greenberg was saying teams do this but it is relatively unknown. Did not seem right to me.

I would imagine that this is pretty likely. It has been my understanding that there is a huge misconception when it comes to scholarships. There are no four-year scholarships, howevere there are one-year renewable scholarships. With that being the case, I can totally see this happening.

And they should be. Yeah it stinks for the fans that they won't get to watch their team in a bowl game, but they got off with barely a slap across the wrists.

Agreed. However, if UK was hit with a similar punishment it would take a decade to recover. That's the unfortunate thing. OSU, USC, Florida, OKlahoma...etc. won't take long to recover.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

24.

Many freshman played this year and Urban has the best DL recruiting class probably in OSU history. We will see how turns out in 3 years, recruiting services and when they get to school are two different worlds. People in Cbus are indeed glad they truly want to play at OSU and for Urban regardless of the ban.
