December 20, 201114 yr Plus, what did OSU even do that was so bad? Sold some stuff and got some tattoos? You realize there's more to it than just that, right?
December 20, 201114 yr Ok I am an OSU fan, but I don't see why they needed to impose a bowl ban, especially for next year. If anything, they should have been banned last year or this year since that is when the players in question were actually at OSU. Now, the team next year will be punished for things that none of them did. Plus, what did OSU even do that was so bad? Sold some stuff and got some tattoos? Was there any sex abuse at Ohio State? Just curious, but did you defend USC?
December 20, 201114 yr Just curious, but did you defend USC? No, I don't understand why the USC players had to be punished for something Reggie did. Do you understand that?
December 20, 201114 yr Why do you think Coach T got a "show cause" penalty? Because Tressel didn't tell the NCAA that some players sold some stuff and got some tattoos??
December 20, 201114 yr This is also what I am hearing plus they are adding an additional year of probation and Tressel is to receive a show clause (?) penelty. OSU self imposed 5 scholarships so the NCAA added 4 additional over a three year period. I think everyone at OSU is shocked by Bowl Ban. I just feel like the players who did nothing wrong are the ones who are paying the price. These seniors that caused most of the mess are on their way to a Bowl game. Does not make sense but yo do the crime you have to do the time. I wonder if the players had been suspended for the Sugar Bowl last year if there would have been a bowl ban for 2012?
December 20, 201114 yr Because Tressel didn't tell the NCAA that some players sold some stuff and got some tattoos?? The biggest problem , as is often the case, is the coverup and that's what Tressell did which is why he got the "show cause." So, the NCAA can't view it as just a player or three getting free ink.
December 20, 201114 yr This bowl ban could cost Urban between $150k and $250k in bonus money next season.

So, the NCAA can't view it as just a player or three getting free ink. Which is why I stick by argument that next years team does not deserve a bowl ban. Why did they allow them to play the bowl game when the "culprit" players were here along with Tressel?? And now, 2 years later they get a bowl ban, with entirely new players and a new coach? How is that fair?

December 20, 201114 yr A one year bowl ban is tough, but not totally surprising. 2012 will be a good year for Meyer to institute his schemes and philosophy and have the Buckeye’s ready to compete for a Big Ten and National Title in 2013.
December 20, 201114 yr Another reason next years team should not be banned.... My guess is if the AD Gene Smith and/or Mr Gee had made the right decision to ban OSU from a bowl in 2011 then then 2012 bowl ban would not have happened. So the blame falls entirely on OSU.

How is that fair? I agree that the way the NCAA punishes teams is both inconsistent and questionable. It is not fair that players and coaches who were not involved in the crime have to serve the punishment, but until the schools and NCAA drastically changes it will continue. As Buckeye fans, we have a lot to look forward too, albeit a year later than we might have hoped.
