December 20, 201114 yr If OSU fans want to be mad about the bowl ban, like Clyde said, be mad at Gene Smith and Gee. They could have avoided this had they done the thing most thought they should do, and impose a bowl ban for this season.
December 20, 201114 yr My guess is if the AD Gene Smith and/or Mr Gee had made the right decision to ban OSU from a bowl in 2011 then then 2012 bowl ban would not have happened. So the blame falls entirely on OSU. For what it's worth, Smith should have left with Tressel IMO.

December 20, 201114 yr Here is the NCAA report. http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/public/ncaa/resources/latest+news/2011/december/ohio+state+cited+for+failure+to+monitor,+receives+postseason+ban

So the blame falls entirely on OSU. I agree the administration screwed this up, especially after the crappy season we had but in their defense I think they based everything on prior cases and bowl bans were never issued. That being said, I have a hard time believing that Gene Smith is going to survive after this, if fact I am suprised he has made it this far!
December 20, 201114 yr How do you punish a school then? Good question and if I had a great answer I could lead the reform of college football. My best guess would be to punish those involved and the almighty dollar. In some respects the NCAA does both and in others they don’t. I’m not blasting the NCAA for handing out the ban, just the affect the ban has on those not involved in the violations. I’m not just referring to OSU, but USC and any other school in a similar situation.
December 20, 201114 yr This bowl ban could cost Urban between $150k and $250k in bonus money next season. Could be more, yes? The Big Ten has already stated that, if OSU is ban from attending a bowl game, they are ineligible to play in the conference championship game.
December 20, 201114 yr Could be more, yes? The Big Ten has already stated that, if OSU is ban from attending a bowl game, they are ineligible to play in the conference championship game. It is a post season ban and not just a bowl ban. I just don't see this as being as catastrophic as some think. The only way this really effects the program is if they screw up while in the probation period.
December 20, 201114 yr Another reason next years team should not be banned.... So, tOSU should've not recieved any real punishment cause some of the offenders are gone? Nice spin.
December 20, 201114 yr So, tOSU should've not recieved any real punishment cause some of the offenders are gone? Nice spin. No, I'm saying they shouldn't have received any more punishment than what had already been self-imposed. And maybe the loss of a few more scholarships, which wouldn't affect the current players. You see?
December 20, 201114 yr It will cost the NCAA much more. Any Buckeye fan who thinks this way should really get over themselves . The buckeyes never have and never will be bigger than College football as a whole.

And maybe the loss of a few more scholarships, which wouldn't affect the current players. You see? So cheat for years and years and lose 4 schollys? Geez with that thought process, there's nothing to detour everyone from breaking the rules. You are blinded by your allegiance to the buckeyes.
