OSU will receive 2012 bowl ban

Featured Replies

No, I don't understand why the USC players had to be punished for something Reggie did. Do you understand that?

Gene Smith and Gee is the reason for this.

Hopefully this will get the ball rolling to get rid of them.

I agree that it does suck for the players who were not involved to be punished for it. However it had to be done because if not, then it shows that all schools can get away with cheating and not be punished as long as they don't get caught while those players are still there.

I think in some cases like this they need to consider allowing the teams to play in the bowl games for the players. However do not allow that school to receive any money from that bowl game.

From an OSU fan's perspective the major problem with this ruling is that it came so late and the players involved in the scandal are the players that will be to playing in this years bowl game and they are Seniors, meanwhile next years Senior class, that has done nothing wrong, pays the price. I am not disagreeing with the bowl ban but see no reason the NCAA could not have made this same ruling two or three weeks ago and the University would have been able to decline invitations for this year. If Smith and Gee would have self imposed the penalty and we would not be having this discussion.

So all the rule breakers are gone after this year?

What about this guy?

You can't honestly think all the rule breakers were outted last year? There's still A LOT of nice and expensive tattoos still visible when they take the field...I'm not saying, but I'm just saying :D

My guess is if the AD Gene Smith and/or Mr Gee had made the right decision to ban OSU from a bowl in 2011 then then 2012 bowl ban would not have happened. So the blame falls entirely on OSU.

Based on this ruling, it should be interesting to see what Miami gets.

So why did this whole process have to take over a year to figure out? Could they not have been banned from last years bowl game? Or this years at the least? A good question: you say there are consequences for breaking the rules, but the people who broke the rules are suffering zero consequences?? The new players and the new coach are the ones who have to deal with the punishments. I don't see how that is fair. I felt the same about the USC situation with Reggie.

In other news Cleveland State has been issued the death penalty... :D

Probably because the powers that be at tOSU are spineless cheats who tried to get by with little punishment. And there still will be rule-breakers on the team next year. If you ever played organized sports, you would know that the team gets punished for individuals mistakes.

Yeah, I agree they get punished. By why should a team 2 years later get punished??

Are you purposely ignoring that players who broke rules are still on the team? And it's not about the "players". It's about the institution. OSU is bigger than a few kids that'll miss out on a bowl game. OSU has to be held responsible. Frankly OSU fans should be thanking their lucky stars this all they got.

I know they're on the team, but pretty much all of them will be gone next year so this bowl ban will not affect them. That is why I am mad. And why would they get any more than this? I still don't see what they did that was so bad. We're not talking about sex abuse here that went unreported, we're talking about tattoos.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

Apples and Oranges with the OSU and PSU situations. If you can't see that then this is a pointless discussion. PSU had a RETIRED coach raping a kid. That's criminal issue to which he will likely spend the rest of his life in jail. OSU was an NCAA issue. By your logic of lumping them into the same category, we can say the Buckeye players should do a few days in jail. Whether there's 5 players or 50 players on next years TEAM who broke the rules, they're still on the team and thee team will be punished as a whole.

We're talking about lying and deceiving the governing body of the sport in an attempt to cover up infractions. They are VERY lucky they didn't get hit with a lack of institutional control...
