Its just people getting in to the holiday spirit. Would you say the same about an adult wearing and American flag t-shirt on the 4th of July, or someone wearing green on St. Patty's day?

I actually think my initial analysis of you was a bit off. In the picture below, you certainly look the old part. But crotchety? That was unfair of me.
