I have a question for some of you. I heard this discussion yesterday, and I think it has some merit. Do you think Goodell waits for the public perception of the act to take full effect before he renders his punishment? Seems he could be more swift, exact in his penalty. Not just this incident, but the Suh incident and others. I would have originally poo poo'd that notion, but the longer I think about it, I think Roger is a media hound to a degree and lets the talking heads and the morning show mentality to enter into his penalty to a degree.

To some extent. Though Goodell has also shown he is sheriff and will lay down whatever punishment he feels like that day.

Here's my justification.

 

I hate the Steelers.

Therefore, I hate James Harrison.

Subsequently, I hate Spindoc.

The Steelers sure didn't need him gone this week against SF. Puts them in a bad situation if Woodley isn't totally healthy on the other side. It also takes their best tackler in Timmons and puts him on the edge instead of the middle of the field where he's relatively solid in coverage also. Harrison's constant disregard for the rule has finally hurt his team.

I usually am one of the first ones to complain on this stuff and that most of the flags thrown are ridiculous and they are going way too far. After all, it is football and a violent game.

Having said that, I have disagreed on alot of the penalties, fines and/or suspensions, some but this on imo was obvious, Harrion went high with his head down and helmet to helmet. I think that this paticular hit should have a flag thrown and some kind of fine,etc. attatched. I thought that the hit on McCoy was an obvious call.

You can't hide it. Steeler envy and hate is a fine line.

I think the NFL should do what the NBA does with technicals. I don't like that people are getting fined for hits, especially if it's their first time. I believe they should have it set up that once you get hurt third illegal hit, then you suspended for a game. Which also means you lose a game check. Then it starts over again, and if it happens again that season then its a two game suspension. They need to let it still be football, the hits are going to happen even if it's not on purpose. So at least allow some room for mistakes, but let their be a punishment if he keeps happening.
