I prefer Bowling Green over Louisville, even if it's a little longer drive.

I agree, with perfect football weather and three local team in the mix, these numbers have to disappoint the KHSAA. The Sweet Sixteen played in Lexington just for the games played on Saturday alone, draw close to or over 40,000.

It's a basketball state. I know quite a few folks that take a vacation that week to attend the Sweet 16 every year. Can't say that about football final weekend. I'm sure there are a few, but not many.

That's like comparing apples to oranges. Ky is a basketball state, and the fact that the games are played inside over the course of 4 days helps a ton. I personally would not drive the 3 plus hours to freeze and drive back the same day, unless a team I rooted for was playing.

On the other hand i have made the 1 plus trip to the Ville for random games b/c it is close enough. That being said WKU is a great venue for the finals. The crowd is right on top of the field, and the hospitality is great.

I like Bowling Green better because of the distance to travel, but I wouldn't be upset about going back to Louisville for another shot at a ring for the Falcons and some Bearno's Pizza!

No way!!! The display of disrespect that they(KHSAA ordered) show teams and fans after each game carousing them off the field and out of the stadium(forcefully at times) is totally uncalled for. Don't tell me it's because of time limits. Everybody knows it's about money with having 6 State Champions. Another reason 6 is too much. If there were 4, then there would be plenty of time to celebrate your teams season on the field win or lose. I would bet a dollar to a donut that the numbers would be the same if not better with 4 teams. Another blotched movement by the KHSAA!

This happened in Louisville also.

I feel the same prefer driving and staying in Bowling Green.

This is what upset me the most last year. Boyle played the last game, no other that night and they where rushed off the field, like cattle. I heard one official say " I will make them leave the field now" and grabbed the Trophey and walked off the field with it. Boyle was trying to get a picture of all the Sr's with the trophey at mid-field and couldn't. What was the hurry?????? My only complaint. Let the kids celebrate their win!

I should've stated the hospitality by the people in BG not the officials.

2011 (BG) - 40,160

2010 (BG) - 47,759

That's a huge drop when you add in 3 local teams and the weather being as good as it was.

I wonder how much effect ihigh live video had to do with attendance?:idunno:

Louisville is a better place, more to do there.

I agree and Papa John's is a nicer facility.

Question because I have not been able to go for the last two years. Is the press box at BG still a dump?

Not having been in PJ's press box, I can't compare the two. I was in the WKU press box this past weekend. It had a countertop and a chair; nice view of the field. Which satisfied my needs. I'm told in years past that when it's cold, it's a bear up there. But weather cooperated for me this weekend. The garage door windows were up, but I could see that if they had to be down due to rain or snow, they could have been a problem. Glass was clouded and the metal frames could have gotten in the way. No elevator into the press box, which meant climbing some pretty steep steps. No problem for me since I didn't have to carry much, but if I had to lug a bunch of equipment that wouldn't have been all that pleasant. Someone told me a renovation of the press box is in the plan. Don't know when however.

I do like the playing environment at Feix Field better than PJ. PJ is a beautiful facility, but I think it's just too big for the crowds attending the state championship games. It just felt empty with even 10,000 in attendance and 10,000 in attendance doesn't happen all that often. I will say that the staff folks I dealt with at Feix were extremely pleasant. I know that some fans were upset being promptly and perhaps rudely ushered out of the stadium after games, but those were the directions from the KHSAA. I'm sure everyone would like more time to celebrate their team's win after a game, but when you have three games in one day, it's hard to have even more time between games than they do now. As someone that spent 12 hours at the stadium, when the last game was over, I was flat out tired and ready to get out of there and back to my hotel room. The situation is never going to be perfect or satisfy everyone.

Some folks would be willing to pay more for tickets and not be required to have separate tickets for each game, thus eliminating the need to clear the stadium between games. But if the KHSAA does that then some other folks would complain about the cost of the tickets being too high particularly since they only want to watch one game (which unlike the Sweet 16, is the case for a large majority of the fans at the football championship games). Some folks want more time between games to allow more time to celebrate wins and players. Do that and the first game has to start earlier. Fans of teams playing in the first game then complain it's too early and forces them to spend money on a hotel the night before or have to leave the house at zero dark thirty that morning. Start the last game later, and some folks complain that the game ends too late and its dangerous for the students driving home after the game late at night. Personally I'd prefer a 3 day event with 2 games per day. But that drives up the cost of puting on the championship games, meaning more expensive tickets, or even cheaper trophies, or reduced reimbursements to the teams, etc., etc. Which starts more complaining. There simply is no way to keep everyone happy. If there were easy fixes that could make everyone happy, I have to believe they'd have been implemented by now.
