Agreed, especially sucks that Joe Pa's legacy is tainted in what could have been his last season regardless due to some one else's disgusting actions.

People are calling for his job too. Joe Pa is the biggest name in this scandal so obviously we are talking about him the most. He IS Penn State.

Why weren't the victims families doing more? See my list there are a half dozen people more culpable than Joe Pa in this. Like I said this is lynch mob mentality. People are angry and need someone to blame.

He is the public fall guy. Sure. But that is to be expected since it is the only person 75% of America knows. Not sure why you cannot get that.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is fired today, but definitely by Saturday. Everyone involved in the situation will be removed, they were just starting with the biggest name. Maybe to get it done as far away from their big game against Nebraska as possible.

I don't see why the GA would want to stay on as a coach? After all this, man up and resign. Then again this is the guy who walked away after seeing a child being raped and called his daddy.

They had to make this move. Too much on the line for the rest of this season going forward. Could you imagine Paterno being on the sidelines these next few weeks and potentially at the Rose Bowl?

:thumb: I don't see why anyone is defending Joe Pa here. I do think that too much attention has been focused on Joe Pa, and I don't necessarily think he needs to go to jail. But even he agrees he should have done more. That's the easiest thing in the world to see. A little boy was raped, and he basically told his boss...who ignored it. And then both later allowed Sanduscky to repeatedly come back to the campus where he had already molested several other victims.

 

how often does this happen inte world today? Does the police not see stuff and report it to their superiors or do they jsut do whatever.

I don't think I'll be able to fathom how people find Paterno the sympathetic figure here, let alone are actually outraged he has been forced to quit before the end of the season.

Since the victims were at risk and under privilaged kids they may not have had families or parents at all or ones that cared enough to do anything. Which IMO makes the whole situation that much worse for Paterno and McQuery. They knew these were kids who Sandusky had gained access to through the second mile house, which being smart men I'm sure they understood were already dealing with struggles at home if they even had one. They had an obligation as supposed men of character to step up and do what was right. Instead they protected the program and their friend Sandusky. The only fact that I need to know is that after McQuery saw a kid being raped he reported it to Paterno and then for the next decade both conitnued to see him on and off campus with children. That's deplorable because they KNEW without a shadow of a doubt what was happening to those kids. I'm guessing the victims are in the thousands and the people at Penn State including Paterno are an accessory to each one that occurred after McQuery saw what he saw in the shower. Joe Paterno should get no sympathy and if Penn State wants to retain an ounce of credibility McQuery has to be fired as well.

The DA should have done more. But after he declined prosecution he went missing and was later declared dead, so we can't ask him any questions.

 

The parents, really don't have a say whether or not the DA drops the case. Neither do the police officers. The police officers did the investigation and took it to the prosecutor who declined prosecution. They did all they could do.

 

I agree that the Grad Assistant should have done more, as could the people Joe Pa reported it to. However the people Joe Pa reported it to are being punished. The GA and JoePa may have done everything legally, but they could have done more to help that victim, and future victims. They basically did nothing when it all comes down to it. They reported it to their superior and then forgot about it.

 

So if your child is molested and the DA just closes the file and ignores you, you should just sit down and shut up? Really? You wouldn't be running to anyone that would listen about what happened and try and force the DA to prosecute? Same if you are the police. The police can put a ton of pressure on the DA if they want to.

The kid that lead to the investigation in 98 had parents who cared. It was the parents who went forward and helped get the confession.

I've read and re-read several articles about this situation and a few things strike me:

 

1) Paterno is bearing the brunt here, and at this point, I feel unfairly so.

2) Apparently not only did the GA not do anything at the time, but reported to his father, who did nothing more than tell the GA to report it to "someone".

3) I still feel, from all the accounts I've been able to find, that Paterno did NOT try to cover up anything and that he did what he thought was correct in the situation.

4) This situation FAR exceeds Joe Paterno. It happens frequently, it seems, but how does this go on for decades and nothing is done? The number of times it was RIGHT THERE to be dealt with?

 

Penn State has doomed themselves. There is NO evidence Joe knew anything that happened before 2002, he reported the only thing he's been proven to know, and a DA and Grad Assistant all had direct knowledge and failed to do anything. DA wouldn't prosecute when he had a legally taped confession and the GA didn't stop him or go to the police. Yet somehow Joe is the one responsible, when he has not been linked to any direct knowledge of what was going on. This is ridiculous. Most of the people on this message board and in the news just want someone to hang. It's lynch mob mentality at it's finest. Something awful happened so lets punish everyone we possibly can whether they did anything or not.

I've said it. There are MANY people who need to go here. Paterno gets the thread because he is the most famous. Simple as that. But don't try to act like nobody is saying the GA, AD, DA, etc. doesn't deserve punishment too. It's been said in the media and on here.

I have a bad feeling the "more to come out" bit alluded to earlier is going to be revolving around the DA's mysterious disappearance and death....I have a bad feeling we've only scratched the surface of the cover up on this. JMO.
