Getting ready to buy a Tablet(Xoom, Galaxy, Ipad, etc.) - suggestions?

Featured Replies

I'm in the market for a tablet for my future wife and son(one between them to share, he is 4).

Not that high on Apple products but am open to them, also been looking at The Xoom, Galaxy, and Kindle Fire.

Who has one?

All input appreciated.

How do you plan on using it?

Web browsing, and games/movies/books for the wife and son.

Your selection of games, movies and books will be most plentiful if you buy an Ipad. I personally wouldn't think of owning any other product than the Ipad. Great product, easy to use and with the app store the possibilities are almost endless!

I love my I pad, love the Apple Store people. Their service is excellent. I do not know anything about the other products. I watch movies, play games, read, surf the internet, and check mail on mine. I had a problem only once and the Apple people made it right.

Apple's customer service is really good.

I basically use mine to browse and for Twitter.

I occasionally read Sports Illustrated on it.

I don't think you can go wrong with the iPad. I'm not sure how the price varies between tabs, but most I've seen are very close to the iPad, and that makes it a very easy choice for me. Is there a particular reason you don't like Apple? I'm also intrigued by the Kindle Fire since it's about half the price of the iPad and shares some basic functions with it. I think I'm a little too skeptical to be one of the first on board, though.

Does anyone know if you can get a decent variety of textbooks for the iPad2? Is it more economical than using regular books? Is it even a good idea to go that route?

Its weird for me about Apple. Apple followers are "go against the norm" but they go with the norm because Apple is so mainstream now? .....confusing? lol

But I want the best product.

I am not an Apple person in the slightest, anyone who has ever been in a thread regarding computers knows that about me, but right now the iPad is currently well ahead of its rivals for the most part. At some point in the near future you will start to see some really competitive and good tablet PCs that are non-Apple, but at this point the iPad is the cream of the crop.

I believe ESPN has an app for the IPad.
