I keep trying to think of some logic for that intentional walk move and I am drawing a blank. Anyone? Did one of the announcers have a way to explain that?

Apparently he ultimately wanted to bring Motte in, but he wasn't warm yet. So they got Lynn in and bought some time (with his mound warm ups).

 

 

And he couldn't have left the lefty in there to do that because?

On Sportscenter, the postgame interview they're saying the bullpen didn't hear Motte's name called and they mistakenly got Lynn up instead.

Take the bat out of Pujols' hands???

I've stated many times. Holliday has a MUCH better chance of getting a single or better to score the run from 2nd than Pujols does getting an extra base hit to score the run. If Craig would've been safe at 2nd and they walk Pujols, Holliday's single would've scored him.

I'm not buying that excuse by LaRussa. So the bullpen coach doesn't know Lynn isn't going to pitch tonight? The staff doesn't discuss who is, and isn't available to pitch before the game starts?

So if you messed up and didn't have the right pitcher warming up, you take a slow walk to the mound, talk things over with the pitcher, wait for the umpire, take a slow walk back to the dugout, tell the pitcher to take his time on the walk, and then take another slow walk to the mound. I just don't see wasting a pitcher in a tight game making any sense.

 

Now they are saying on ESPN that LaRussa thought Motte was the one warming up instead of Lynn. I am sure we will hear whining about the Texas bullpen and bullpen phone.

Tony LaRussa doesn't make mistakes. There are only mix ups when his managerial moves back fire.

The Baseball Tonight guys are somewhat divided over that. Seems like Ozzie is buying it. Some of the other guys, not so much.

The best part of this series is watching LaRussa get out mananged! LaRussa is blowing this series, let's just hope it continues.
