October 25, 201114 yr What has been his foreign policy? Can it be stated with any consistency? It has been more practical than doctrinaire, but that doesn't equate to being problematic, at least in my estimation.
October 25, 201114 yr It has been more practical than doctrinaire, but that doesn't equate to being problematic, at least in my estimation. Not problematic but certainly not grounds for re-election. On micro issues he has been all over the board, for instance on currency he is isolationist when it comes to Europe, interventionist when it comes to Africa. Noone can figure out what his administration does on tariffs, it almost depends on the industry. No consistency. These things don't get reported, by the way.
October 25, 201114 yr Kind of wondering the samething. Other than killing Bin Laden what has he accomplished? And how much credit can any President get for that? The information that lead to the killing of Bin Laden came when Bush was still in office. I applaud the POTUS for continuing to be tough against terrorism but his foreign policy overall hasn't been all that. I think we have to give Obama credit for all that he has accomplished in the foreign policy area: - A center point of his campaign was a promise to get out of Iraq and he is making that happen. - He has focused resources in Afghanistan and taken the fight to the terrorists, as promised in his campaign. - Al Quaida has been hit very hard and lost numerous leaders because of Obama's leadership, including Osama Bin Laden. You have to credit Obama's focus on this very thing for a big part in the success. - Ghadafi's regime was overthrown through a multi national effort with the US not being front and center of the battle and no US troops on the ground. What happened in Libya is what GWB dreamed could happen in Iraq, but it didn't. These are all accomplishments that a POTUS from any party should be proud of IMO. Now, on the home front, that is for a different thread.
October 25, 201114 yr Sure didn't stop the Obama supporters from blaming President Bush. As a side note, this stuff about "he's done a good job with the mess he was handed" is pitiful. Kind of par for the course though. President Obama blames everyone but his administration for the country's problems, why should his supporters be above that? Absolutely. What your post states but vice versa. All Obama haters have their perception of things and us supporters have ours. Obama dissenters blame Obama, and no one else, for everything that is wrong with the country. Why should his dissenters be above that?

Bush started it but it took Obama to finish it. Bush started Iraq. Obama finished it. Bush chased Bin Laden. Obama finished him. Bush ruins the economy. Hmmmmm, maybe in time Obama will finish fixing that for Bush also. Edited October 25, 201114 yr by PurplePride92
October 25, 201114 yr I'm still waiting on the answer of who can do better than Obama. I keep hearing all he's done wrong but still haven't heard of a better person for the job.

Noone can figure out what his administration does on tariffs, it almost depends on the industry. No consistency. These things don't get reported, by the way. I don't necessarily disagree. One of the constant critiques of his administration and his style has been that much of his specialized staff and experts are quite divided and he let's them duke it to reach conclusions. That's been the case, perhaps to a higher degree, in the domestic realm. Though I find that somewhat more pragmatic, if not maddening, than an absolutist grand strategy.

Obama dissenters blame Obama, and no one else, for everything that is wrong with the country. Why should his dissenters be above that? That's not true at all. Numerous times on here I've given President Obama credit for things he's done that I've felt are right, and given him blame when he's done stupid things (i.e. Obamacare). Very rarely did we hear people blaming President Clinton for some of the mess President Bush inherited (Say what you want about GWB, but the housing collapse was a direct result of President Clinton's policies and philosophy). I can name quite a few people that I feel could be much more effective than Obama. You would just dismiss them though because most have an "R" next to their name, so there's no point in listing them.

October 25, 201114 yr I can name quite a few people that I feel could be much more effective than Obama. You would just dismiss them though because most have an "R" next to their name, so there's no point in listing them. Definitely true. It would take a heck of a human being to be a republican for me to have faith in them to do great for my interests, beliefs and overall satisfaction. I'd probably have to personally know them or something along those lines. Or just an overall bad candidate like John Kerry was. Didn't vote for him. I can admit that. I voted for Bush because it was his responsibility to fix the mess he created. Too bad Al Gore lost.

Revisionist history. The R's whole political strategy and the growth of right wing media talk were based on blaming Clinton.

Just seems more vocal when it is time to blame Obama than when it is time to give him credit. Forgive me, I see a lot of blame being thrown Obama's way and when people like Trinityalum give him credit their sanity and intelligence is questioned. I see Clinton get blamed for outsourcing everytime the words outsourcing and jobs are in the same sentence. I see Clinton get blamed for 9/11 sometimes when Bin Laden is brought up because Clinton didn't pullt he trigger in he 90's. I see Clinton's extramarital affairs get brought up as a question to his integrity. I guess that is what happens on a board dominated by conservatives/republicans, etc etc.
October 25, 201114 yr I agree that by and large Obama has done well both home and abroad. I don't think anyone else could/would have done better given the circumstances. Maybe it's a matter of perspective. Personally, my lot is better than prior to his election. I was able to find a new job with comparable pay, lower cost health benefits and 401K. My 401K has been gaining, not leaps and bounds, but modestly. And modest gains are fine for me. Many in my family are seeing improvement in several areas, such as promotions & lower cost health insurance as well. Well I am happy you have seen improvements. December 2008: Unemployment Rate 7.2% September 2011: Unemployment Rate 9.2 % 9/30/2008 U.S. Debt - 10.024 trillion 01/20/2011 U.S. Debt - 14.001 trillion Would you like to see the U.S. rise out of debt? You can't spend money and magically get out of debt. You don't want to get me started on Obamacare. Besides the fact it costs 2 trillion in it's first decade it's socialist. We need a new healthcare plan but we don't need the Federal Government running the show. Way too much government. Yes, that's a very good job. 750,000 jobs lost per month when he started, Over 100,000 per month gained now US auto industry ready to go out of business when he started, Healthy and vibrant today Financial system ready to collapse then, doing well todayPassed the affordable care act Got Bin laden Ghadafy is gone Yes, he has done a very good job at home and abroad. The financial system doing well????!!! Are you familiar with the terms 'inflation' & 'devalue'? That isn't necessarily Obama's fault but spending 4 trillion when you're already 10 trillion in debt makes A LOT of sense. I hope if you, personally, were in severe debt the last thing you'd consider to help would be spending more money. That doesn't hold water. Congratulations on Gadaffi and Osama. He better do something positive because his approval rating is 40 %. I'd say that accounts for democrats as well. Edited October 25, 201114 yr by Know It All fixed sp

You voted for him because he created "the mess" and he should/would fix it?
