The GCL is a nasty, dirty league that does not take kindly to teams beating them on their own turf. Ever been on the bottom of a pile against Moeller? Do you have any idea what goes on at the bottom of those piles against GCL teams? Probably not.

CF, in your post you publicly made light of a kid sustaining a concussion. Whether the hit was late or not, or dirty or not is beside the point... the kid sustained a head injury and you're talking about Highlands' "precious Bluebird getting dinged up".

JB, PT will be okay from what I am hearing and he will recover nicely under the direction of some darn good doctors and trainers.

I know its easy to let comments like CFs get to you especially when we are talking about a serious, serious situation and its very easy and only natural to defend our guys or any young kid for that matter when a grown adult goes on the insensitive attack. Happens all the time, as parents of players the only thing we can do for the ignorant is pray for them.

I sure hope they take it nice and slow with PT. I'm sure he got a pre-season baseline test (I think all the Bluebirds do) and he should not be in a game until he gets tested and can meet that baseline again. Memory loss (which I have on good authority is what he suffered) is not a "slight" concussion.

PERIOD END OF SENTENCE!!!!!! I know I wouldnt want anyone other then parents and or Drs to evaluate and decide when a kid returns. I sure hope this is your philosophy because I knows it is HIGHLANDS.

I am posting this because as recently as one year ago a doctor associated with Highlands told a young player that he would be good to go after a week of no symptoms. Turns out the kid showed no outward symptoms after a week, but testing three weeks after the injury showed he was not recovered yet. Unfortunately I've had to deal with this stuff personally, and one thing I've learned is that new knowledge is being developed all the time. I've also learned that not all doctors are on the same page when it comes to treatment of concussions.

 

I know that the decision will not be up to HHS (I hope not anyway!), and I'm not sure why you thought I meant anything like that. I also don't understand why it upsets you that I share my experience. Isn't that what we do here - talk about things? Do you have to be a Dr. to comment on medical issues? Do you have to be a coach to comment on coaching?

During the Oakland Raiders game yesterday, a play similar to what happened with Towles was called a penalty. It was a personal foul for leading with the helmet. I dont know the exact verbage, but it was very Similar to what happened to Towles. I still have to say I don't think it was a penalty with the High School rules, but I thought I would point out it is in the NFL.
