Belfry's Philip Haywood ties all-time win mark

Featured Replies

The interesting thing to me as I read all the great information above on Haywood is the similarity I see in Haywood's career and Bob Schneider's. Schneider too faced low times for NCC in the late 90's and just when many people started to think the game had passed him by, he adapted and made NCC better than ever. For coaches at smaller schools, I think it is imperative to recognize where your talent fits best each year and tailor your team toward its strengths.

Once again, congratulations in advance to Coach Haywood. Seeing that he is only 60, he looks to have a chance to set a wins record that may never be reached by anyone else. Good luck on future success. He sounds like the kind of coach we all would like to see holding a record that may never be broken.

This thread and first post was probably the best that I have read in my years on BGP.

I am not close to the Belfry program but one doesn't have to be to know their tradition and class. Coach Haywood just may be THE best football coach in the state of Kentucky. I love the old school option style and it still wins football games and plenty of them as is more than obvious with Coach Haywood. A coach doesn't get to this point without being a class individual.

Congrats to Coach Phillip Haywood along with the fine people of Belfry.

Played against Coach Haywood's Prestonsburg teams a long time ago and have watched his Belfry teams over the years. A Roy Walton deciple and Hall of Famer. First class person and first class coach. Congratulations from all your friends and fans from Hazard. Personally, I hope he coaches long enough that the wins record will never be broken again.

Congrats to Coach Haywood. As many has said not a finer man in the Coaching business than Phillip.

Congrats to the coach!

The first time I ever saw a Belfry game was in the semi-finals at Lloyd. (In a driving snow storm) I was impressed then and I still am. Well done Coach Haywood.

Congrats to Coach Haywood! Great post ATL and here’s to hoping that every announcer in the State gives recognition following Belfry’s next victory.

BRAVO! Consider this Highlands fan impressed.

Congratulations and good luck coach!

Congrats to Coach Haywood and the Belfry football community. Use to enjoy playing the Pirates back in the day when Highlands and Belfry would mix it up. Darn good football program down at Belfry and really darn good football coach and man in Haywood.

Too bad the old rivarly couldnt still exist as it sounds like AllCat has some business to settle with Highlands and Mueller. LOL.

I don't think ATLCat is old enough to remember those games between Belfry/Highlands so he couldn't have too big an axe to grind, lol.

I wish there were more games between the two, Belfry is 2-1 against the birds in my lifetime. :D

So you do remember the old tearaway jersey days. David Cecil Memorial stadium playing surface was littered with Red globs of cloth the last time these two teams played at Highlands. LOL

Was Haywood the coach then?
