I will try and

answer this for you. Dixie had Boone on its schedule this year as game number 10 because it was decided that there was going to be no frosh championship game. Then the powers that be decided that week 10 would be championship week so Dixie had to drop the game because obviously you cannot play 3 games in 7 to 10 day period. That is why these two teams do not play rather than everyone thinking they did not schedule one another.

Agreed! They play a very tough schedule that prepares them for a state run, but are no match for Highlands at this time.

I think you can add New Cath to the list too. Back when there were 400 boys up on the hill it used to be one of the greatest rivalries around. I never did hear the real reason why those two stopped playing.

It doesnt matter....NCC goes out and whips 6A Simon Kenton and plays other big schools. Step up and play the Birds again.

 

They have enough athletes that they could compete. It has to be better than watching the Birds play cupcakes. NCC plays Cov Cath and they give Highlands a game.

 

Bob Schnieder is the reason they dont play anymore and I guess they are going to wait until he passes or something before renewing it which is stupid. You talk about a huge gate, fired up kids who mostly have grown up around each other, you would have a great atmosphere.

I doubt it. Beechwood played both last year. They beat NCC. They got beat handily by Highlands. IMO NCC would not have had a chance against Highlands last year.

Actually, NCC doesn't play Cov Cath anymore either. You have to realize there is a difference between most big schools and Highlands as their program stands today. Highlands has done a great job getting two platoon football in place and using their talent and depth to get to a very high level. Beechwood played Highlands the two previous years and was not in either game so they did schedule Highlands in the new contract period. Why play a team you know there is virtually zero chance you can beat? Smaller schools like NCC and Beechwood can not beat teams playing two platoon football with talent like Highlands and Trinity. Would you expect NCC to schedule Trinity? I realize there is the neighborhood rivalry with NCC and Highlands that makes everyone want to see the game but there is no value in it for NCC.

 

 

 

How would it benefit Dixie to continue to play Highlands? As someone else stated, they were not scheduled to play this year and stepped up to fill a spot when someone cancelled out and both teams needed a game. This happens all the time, teams play a few years then they don't, the they play down the road once again. I am sure it's just varsity and JV, and if the powers to be at Dixie see they need to schedule more competitive teams, wouldn't it benefit HHS to look elsewhere for games?

 

 

As to Dixie and other 5A/6A schools, the question is what level do you want to take your program to? If you want to push your program to the highest level, then you need to run your program in a manner that enables you to compete with Highlands and Trinity and you need to schedule them to push your program to compete at that level.

2-platoon football at HHS has not come in to play until the last few years. That has no bearing as to why NCC will not play HHS. Word is, that current coaching staff will play HHS, but as long as Schneider is around the program, that will not happen.

True, that isn't why the series stopped. But I think it will be a factor in it not being resumed.

Right, why wouldnt these teams play each other? They are all competetive football teams and should play each other. NCC is the defending 2A State Champ for heaven sake. 2 platoon or not, NCC would give the Birds a good game.

Absolutely not. There isn't an "A" or "AA" school in the state that can play with HHS or Trinity or any other power in the state. The small schools cannot play two platoon football at the level required to beat a football big boy!!! This years HHS team would beat any small school in NKY by 3 TDS at least.

I also heard that Dixie was not going to play Highlands this year, but needed a 10th game.

As for as the Freshman, if we are going to play a Freshman Championship, all the big schools must play each other.

 

Like I said before Dixie and Boone didn't play on the frosh level this year. So why would Dixie and HHS have to play?? Sorry joat I didn't read the thread before I answered.Makes sense then..:thumb:
