UK move to the ACC?

Featured Replies

What's your opinion if UK made a move to the ACC?

SHOULD lead to a better football program, at least in terms of perception. They would stiill be able to land talent from Georgia (GTech) and Florida (U, FSU) so that would not change. Not like they would drop to the 4th tier of kids because they were in the ACC and not the SEC. Ultimately would likely mean they top out at 9 wins every few years instead of 7...

Sounds right to me.

What about basketball?Would that not be electrifying to have UK vs Duke vs NCC playing each other 2+times a year?OMG UK playing inside Cameron indoor stadium/Duke playing inside Rupp arena...

Worst case is adding a loss or two every regular season. Not like the ACC has been that strong outside of Duke and UNC in recent history...

But a successful football program can make way WAY more money than an excellent basketball program.

They announced last night on ESPN that UK football already makes more money than UK basketball.

Exactly, so could you imagine if they were actually good.

I agree 1000%...

Name one BCS level program that wins with a recruiting base that has as little talent as Kentucky. UK isn't going to win in football, and wouldn't if Lombardi was the coach...

Please say UL, who had their height of success on the back of two KY kids that come along at best once a quarter century...

Dude it's always about the money, that's just life in general. Money matters in just about every thing.

Totally missed my point. I was asking why they can't hire a top tier coach and pay him on the level with the top tier college coaches. You can't convince me that it wouldn't make a difference. Coaching makes a HUGE difference. HUGE.

Because top tier coaches can get bigger money from bigger programs, Thus they don't need to coach at bottom feeder schools. HUGE...

Please say you aren't referring to Mike Bush, who led UofL in rushing in exactly one game that season, and he only played one half of that game. The other kid you refer to (Brohm) didn't start every game that year due to injury. The best two players on that team production-wise were Harry Douglas and Okoye. Brohm had lots of targets that year, including Kolby Smith, Urrutia, Barnridge, Bolen- all skill players with some NFL time, along with NFL-calliber linemen and defensive players like William Gay. I just realized I didn't even mention Allen. That team was much more than Bush and Brohm, an especially specious argument with how little Bush played.

I would worry about losing money. The SEC teams are big draws and as long as UK could be as competitive as they were the last few years before this one, they will make money in football. Bring in the ACC teams and I think it hurts attendance.

But do the extra wins offset that as far as enthusiasm goes?
