How awesome were Starter Jackets.

Featured Replies

This column got me reminiscing about my UK Starter Jacket. Quite possibly the greatest article of clothing I've ever owned. So who here owned a Starter Jacket. If so, what team(s) did you have?

My roommate actually still has his and wears it to ski in. I'll have to get a picture when I get home.

P.S. If you don't like you Starter Jackets you are either A) Old or B) un-American.

Even before I clicked the link I knew it had to be a grantland article. Starter jackets were the bees knees.

I had a couple, a UK one and a Carolina Panther's pullover style that I got for Christmas.

Still wear mine and its in great shape, and its very sharp looking.

It's an Auburn one, right?

I loved my Starter Jacket...you weren't cool unless you had one. Mine was UK, but I remember quite a few Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bulls in school.

The whole list of reasons it was great being a kid in the 90's made my smile haha!

I still have my ND one that is over 15 years old. I still wear it as it's my winter work coat.

Had a Raiders one that I must have worn for ten years. I loved that thing.

I got my Notre Dame Starter Jacket for Christmas in the 4th grade. My parents did so spring cleaning at their house a year or two ago and I finally let them give it to St. Vincent DePaul.

Back in the day had a UK one, a Charlotte Hornets one and Dallas Cowboys one. Although I am still a die hard UK and Dallas Cowboys fan, the Hornets one was the sweetest of all. It had big teal green sleeves and the rest was white and had a big Hornets logo on the back that said Charlotte over top of it and Hornets underneath the actual hornet logo. There was some purple sprinkled throughout the jacket as well, outlining the lettering and such. Sweet, sweet jacket, wore that thing everywhere during the Zo, Mugsy, and Larry Johnson days.

Wow, had no idea the link was about a Charlotte Hornets jacket!!!!!! Like I said in the post above though its easy to see why, man was it sweet!!!!!!

Man, all of y'all with multiple jackets must be rich. My brother and I were allowed one Starter Jacket a piece.

Well for me the three I had spanned like 6-8 years, I think I may have had a white/black/blue Orlando Magic but I am not sure. But I got my first when I was around six years old so growing out of them was a problem, maybe got a new one every couple of years, they were hot items for a long time, almost through the entire decade. AND, I was an only child so that probably played into it to.

Speaking of Starter Jackets. Who all got Eastbay magazines regularly? Every kid in my school got them and we were always trying to decide what apparel/shoes we wanted.

I had a Chicago Blackhawks jacket during my middle school years. I loved it!
