What do you do if you are Campbell County?

Featured Replies

Ok not losing talent to BB but when you have the options of BB or NCC it does hurt the Camels. iMO that isn't their main problem, it's commitment to getting better. it's almost like they just accept their mediocrity.

No! Brossart kids are Brossart kids. Brossart loses kids to Campbell County, not vise versa.

I hardly doubt that at the present Campbell County is losing sleep coveting the football talent presently at Brossart. It is highly likely that 80% of our football players would still be at Brossart because of other advantages/considerations even if we didn't offer football.

Brossart also loses Brossart kids to NCC. They obviously have a superior football product at the moment, and the KHSAA didn't do us any favors by moving us into the same class with them. Had we remained in Class 1A, where we legitimately belong, we would have carved out a nice niche, probably going to the playoffs on an annual basis and been a nice option for players from the Alexadria community to be a part of a winning program, and getting some playoff experience.

It sounds like CC has it rougher than the other county teams in NKY. They haven't been a contender since '94, that's a long time for a county so rich in talent. Where do all the Red Devils end up? Kenton County has the most schools in NKY by far, why can't Campbell seem to get things going?

A lot of the Red Devils either go to NCC or HHS..I would say more go to CC though..

I think you always have to prepare for the future while at the same time putting your best team on the field. CC should use there JV to develope their up and coming kids and have their coaching staff spend a little more time developing the tactical and fundamental skills of the younger players. You play now and for the future.

Was the Harris kid a Red Devil?

Was the Harris kid a Red Devil?

Yes sir

I know this isn't a quick fix however, I would like to see the CC youth football league go through 8th grade, instead of stopping at 6th grade. Bring 4 or 5 starting players in for every position to the freshman class. If you can bring 40 or 50 players into the freshman class that were all starters in the 8th grade. It will make for a harder working freshman class, which in turn should put better Varsity players on the field in years to come. Somewhere, somehow, there has to be some tradition and the pride that comes from being in a winning program. I do not mean to take anything away from the present or past players, or question how hard they work. If you have always been a starter through 8th grade, and now you are fighting 3 or 4 other guys for a starting job on the Freshman team. Some will work even harder to get that spot.

While I will readily admit I don't know what the answer is, I don't think anyone can claim there isn't some kind of problem for a school that big to have decade long droughts. One thing I did notice is that their 7th grade team played the NCC team this weekend. The CCMS team had close to 50 kids, many of which I am sure didn't play at all or extremely limited time. Maybe in the 5th quarter but even then the numbers were so large that they couldn't have played much.

Many of these kids I am sure are discouraged from the lack of opportunity. I know from the rumblings I have heard in the stands their parents certainly are. It may be a good idea to give some of these kids a chance to get to play and get reps to allow them to continue in the youth league until they are freshman. Many of them I am sure haven't hit puberty yet but will ultimately get bigger, faster, and stronger and catch some of the kids ahead of them. Problem is that when they do, they may be wearing another uniform because they feel alienated by the Camels.

I agree totally... The kids need to play and not be tackling dummies in practice..

Having one 7th grade and one 8th grade team feeding a 6A school does not sound good.

As a Camel alum, I have lived through about 26 years of football futility. (except for 2 years during the 90's). It is amazing to sit in the stands and listen to parents demean the coaching staff in their first season. No support whatsoever! Let Coach Lickert "build" his program and parents should either support the program or not let your kid play. The bottom line issue is that this football program has 1 maybe 2 playmakers. Tyler Durham being 1 and whoever makes a play, the other. While this saying is very cliche, it's very true - "it's not about Xs and Os, but about the Johnny and Joes". I disagree with the coach on where I would be playing certain kids, but my opinion doesn't matter.

To answer the question of the thread - I would go with the youth movement! My best sophs and juniors would play if they are the best option and get opportunities to get more playing time if they are the 2nd or 3rd best option at a position. Campbell Co. Isn't the high school sporting mecca - except for wrestling - but a 6A school should be competitive very couple years, not every couple decades.

If you or your son was an athlete and you lived in Campbell County, where would you go or send them for High School? Unfortunately, a lot choose any option besides Campbell County. Figure out why and you should be the AD for life!

Show patience with your new head coach, staff, and young team and support them 100%. It's that simple. If allowed to show his net worth, Coach Lickert will produce a winner.

You give your new head coach the time to get his philosphy and expectations set throughout the program. You allow the CCYFL to continue to send you 40 or 50 kids per grade level with playing experience, instead of relying on the Red Devils who would send 5 or 6 a year at best. You get into your new facility with your coach in his 3rd year and that is really the year that I expect things to really start picking up. I also think it is pretty unfair to not play a SR if he is the better player just to get a sophmore experience. You put your best 11 out there no matter the grade level IMO. The sour grapes from the Red Devil crew about the field is really getting old the CCYFL doesn't even get to play on the field, get over it.

I agree this is one area the CCYFL could improve, but I'm not sure they'd have the schools blessing. Does anyone know if the FTJFL goes through the 8th grade or does HHS have middle school football? I can't remember.

They go through the 8th grade. This year we have 4 teams in the 7/8 grade division.
