What do you do if you are Campbell County?

A couple of things to consider. The current senior class had only one loss as freshman and that was to Highlands in a very close game. Many in this current senior class started playing varisty football as freshman and sophomores. Many in the current senior class have played both sides of the ball up until this year. There are a few seniors who are getting very little if any playtime. So I don't believe they are losing because Coach is only playing seniors. I believe not using some of the seniors to their maximum position because of the '2 platoon' program is a contributing factor. I'm all for the one position, one side of the ball strategy after seeing the dog I have in the fight so exhausted after playing both sides of the ball all night his junior year. But how do the coaches keep those seniors motivated this year? They know, and rightly so, that Coach L can't be held too responsible for the outcome this year and even next. They are starting to believe their senior year is being sacrificed for the good of the program's future. While from a tactical standpoint it makes sense, from a 17 year-old's perspective who's given his all every year it's very discouraging.

I have no idea if this is actually happening, but if it were, might this be one of those life lessons that sports are supposed to teach us? Granted, no 17 year old is going to see it that way.

Steve has to do what Steve thinks is best for the program. If he thinks it is better to play younger kids in a 2 platoon system so be it. It will payoff down the line in my opinion. When you have kids concentrating on one side of the ball it will lead to better overall play on both sides..Plus kids will not get worn down as much during the game..Be patient young Camels winning will come...

The bolded seems to be a common theme in most Campbell County threads, about the great successes of their middle school and freshmen teams; only to be followed by less than sterling to downright dreadful seasons at the Varsity levels. From "undefeated" to "one loss & only to Highlands" type 7th, 8th and freshmen teams, to the basketball "Dream Team" of a few years ago; its makes one wonder why athletes at such a large school, with wonderful facilities (soon to include football); don't get seem to get better and progress as rapidly as their peers as they mature?? I'm another that has no real dog in this fight, but it's frustrating to watch these kids seemingly underachieve after showing such promise early on?

Another very consistent observation on these CC threads is the constant mention of parents, its always "the parents this" & "the parents that"?? While every school has its issues with overzealous & unrealistic, to downright meddling parents, are we to believe that its that much more prevalent at the County so as to affect the outcomes of seasons?? If so, then someone needs to get things under control quickly. I do think the somewhat revolving door nature of coaching staffs has had a detrimental effect on events at CC, and they seem to have success with the longer tenured coaches--Wrestling immediately comes to mind. Staffs don't seem to stay intact for more than a year or two, and when they change, its not a torch passing, but a major upheaval to an entirely new system. 6-A teams should not be "rebuilding" every year or two?

I think Coach Lickert can succeed if given a chance, but then I thought that about the previous regime, which seemed to be turning the corner?? It will be interesting to follow, as it always has been; but the kids work hard and deserve better. In short, as one observer mentioned to me a few years ago after a CC loss--"Why do kids go to Campbell and never get any better"?? While that's obviously not completely true, and numerous examples to the contrary exist--It does seem that a ton of talent coming in, is producing very little results coming out in most cases??
