. You look at Ryle they return 2 of there top 3 pitchers from last year in Hughes and Humphries. .

 

 

How good is the Luster kid that tranferred from Holmes?

Luster sat out 1 year of all 3 sports and did not play summer baseball in 04 due to basketball. He did and play a couple of weeks in 05 over in Cincinnati and looked good in the field and not bad with the bat...he does have some catching up to do but he is an athlete and should have no problem.

My top 5 players in Northern Kentucky

1- Top Pitcher

Curley- Beechwood / 3 - 1 - .78 ERA while injured

Humphrey - Ryle / 7 - 1 - 2.33 ERA while used as an everyday second baseman

Blesser - CCH / 6 - 0 - 1.94 ERA but I believe he rested in between starts

I'll go with Humphrey....7 & 1 as a Soph.

 

2- Hitter / Curley .529 while injured

Note: keep an eye out for Wagner from Ryle / Post had him hitting .393 in the leadoff spot with a lot more at bats then Curley and again as a Soph

 

3- Catcher - Ryan Suckow - Holy Cross / best defensive catcher I have seen up here and he hit .403 last year.

 

4-Middle Infielder

A J Schriever CCH or Garrett Wagner - Ryle

Both have great range...I'll Go with Garrett Wagner...he will be a junior this year in his fourth year of HS ball...he's ready for a big year

 

5-Outfielder

Jimmy Ryan - Holy Cross or Mark Gutridge - Ryle

I'll go with Gutridge...tons of speed, great arm and Jimmy might be distracted from outfield duties because I am sure he wil be in the Indians rotation and he will probably be their ace.

 

Other kids to watch: Conner Larkin - CCH moving to second base, his natural position

Andrew Blazejewski....CCH....hit .394 last year

Andy Dietz - Boone Co. not in the pitching leaders but topped the strie out leaders last year...

I dont know if you consider Mason County as northern Ky but, Ryan Keller had a record of 10-1 with 1.26 era, 106 strikeouts as a junior. When he did not pitch he played left field in every game. He won the 39th district championship 4-0, and 1st round of region 2-1. against Fleming County,and Clark County. He hasto be considerd as one of the best in Northern Ky.

Only because if CCH and Beechwood throw their best against Ryle, which they should do...who are they going to throw on either side of that game.

 

Same goes with when they play head to head. They could lose 2 to win one.

 

Ryle has a little more to come back with until CCH and Beechwood develope some of their potential pitchers. It also depends on how the schedules and weather play out....could have an easy game before and after the tough ones and could get a rainout when you need it....but I like the Raiders odds to start the season.

Ryle has a lot of young talent........but better than Beechwood. I do not think so. I believe it should go Beechwood, Ryle, CCH. IMO

Pitching depth has always been one of Covington Catholic's & Coach Krumpelbeck's strongest assets. While I do not know as much about this year's team as I have the past years, I would assume that that still holds true.

Farrell got a fair amount of action in relief last season. He's also a catcher so I have no clue what role Krumps will use him in this year.

 

Mike Stephens will be in the rotation. Bleser, obviously.

 

After that, I'm not sure.

What for Mike Stephens to make some noise his senior year.

Kyle York of Ludlow should be one of the best around. He is a great hitter and a great shortstop and pitcher as well.

 

Alex Weber of Holy Cross is a name people should be listening for as the season goes on.

Best defensive catcher you've seen? Did you not see the rock behind the plate at ludlow last year? Ricky Shackelford was the best defensive catcher i've ever seen and was a real threat at the plate too.
