PurplePride92
I bet hundreds of boosters are feeling some love today. A booster is scorned and is now trying to effectively ruin an athletic program because the kids he took care of won't pay his bail? Seriously? This guy is a chump. This kind of situation is exactly why kids need some kind of compensation other than a scholarship while playing sports in college. This can happen at any school when a booster is scorned. I agree with you 100%. All schools are closer to this situation than we would like to believe. Having said that, what kind of compensation can be paid to the student-athletes that will be enough to keep them from taking these hand outs? I don't know that it is possible. That's the hard part and fortunately it isn't in my job description.lol. I don't know that it is possible. I'd like to see them try.

Clyde
Lots of national guys were talking of it as a distinct possibility last night. :idunno: It's not going to happen. The NCAA does not want to repeat what happened at SMU ie killing a program for decades.
EZ Living
There is a reason this scumbag is behind bars. If this clown can run a Ponzi scheme and dupe intelligent adults, young student athletes are an easy mark. Everyone wants to point fingers at the student athletes but remember a lot of these kids come from broken homes and have nothing to start with. Guys like this lure young kids in many ways and this is just another. It happens to the non athletes as well in the form of drugs, prostitution, pornography, you name it. dolamite
Here's the thing.... SMU got the death penalty mainly because they were told to quit what they were doing but they continued to do it anyway. Player payments were supposed to have been stopped but they never were. Basically it was like they got in trouble, would have still been able to slide out of it decent but instead of turning it around and running a clean, tight program they continued with player payment and other violations that they were asked to stop. So to summarize what I am trying to say, I think SMU got the death penalty more for continuing to do the wrong thing instead of simply getting caught doing the wrong thing. It's like they got caught cheating, then they never stopped. With that said, I think "The U" is probably going to fall somewhere between USC and SMU when this is all said and done as far as punishment goes. Clyde
How would you like to be Mizzou's AD today having your head coach named specifically in the article as bringing recruits to the booster AND having Tim Fuller as his #1 assistant? Bad day.

Clyde
In response to the issue of compliance Alabama has become the first school to require every athlete in the school to submit the VIN from their car. Bama then runs a Carfax to get the complete history of that vehicle as to who has owned it or who currently owns it.
