I thought this might wake you up from your quiet week. There go the averages again. Everytime the offense is stagnant for a week they erupt for just enough hits and runs to run their averages back up to where you "averages" gurus get all excited again. Watch how quickly they go back to their old ways. To be honest with you I would love to see this team start hitting again and it looks like Bruce might be on the verge of having another month like he did earlier. It would make for better entertainment if they could start hitting and score more runs for a change albeit for a run at 2nd place.

 

So is it fair to say at the end of the season when we have a full season to look at, that we can say the offense is inconistently good? They will easily be in the top 10 in runs scored. And pitching was cosistently good? The will be flirting with top 10 in ERA. This team statistically should be a playoff team. Of course stats can be skewed. Cueto's era heavily skews the team number, as does Bruces wild swings in production. The one and only stat is W's and L's. Thats all we shouold care about.

As a Cubs fan, I loved Ryne Sandberg as a player, but he acted as if the job was owed to him. Truth be told, the Cubs probably did him a favor by not putting him in the mess that they're in now.

26 plate appearances with no walks or extra-base hits. That is not a good start.

I haven't been impressed either. He seems to be way too aggressive, swinging at a lot of first pitches and getting himself out. I don't know if he is too anxious or what but I would expect Dusty/Brook to stress pitch patience with him but Dusty believes in hitting early in the count so who knows. He will have to prove he can hit major league pitching over the next 6 weeks if the "toothpick" gives him enough opportunities.

Wow. My bad I sorted the stats by earned runs. Not ERA. They are 9th in earned runs. Thats most earned runs. I will now change my statement to, the pitching has been consistently less than average.

Stubbs makes no effort to catch balls that land right in front of him. I don't know if he doesn't see the ball well, doesn't get a good jump on it or what. That annoys me and I wish he would at least dive for a ball once in awhile especially with nobody on base.

I have better things to do than check to see if his numbers are accurate. I went with what he said. I have no idea what other teams numbers look like and you can throw the American league out because of the DH.
