Most Influential Rapper of Recent Times

Featured Replies

Inflential is a subjective term...do you mean who most will emulate?? Who most look up to?

I like Jay-Z and Eminem the best. Kanye behind them at a pretty good distance. He is probably the most true to be an "artist". Eminem and Jay-Z are marketing whizzes that know how to make the cash.

May not span all of 10 years as far as influence goes but absolutely no one tops Lil' Wayne the last 5. Most copied guy out there right now in terms of what he does. Not too many try to be Eminem or Jay-Z.

This is very true.

I will say that I think it ultimately will be Kanye's production style/techniques that will have a lasting mark on the industry rather than his skill with lyrics..

I agree.

Ask kids today, you'll get the answer. Eminem.

I think Lil Wayne would be the answer to that question more than Eminem.

Kanye and Jay-Z's collabo album "Watch the Throne" released today. I'm about halfway through it.

Influential? No way. Skilled? Debatable.
What constitutes influential?

In the rap game, Jay-Z and Kanye have more power than Eminem. That's how I look at influence. When PP said Lil' Wayne would be the answer for most kids, I'd say I agree. He's the most popular (or was before he went to jail) with the younger generations these days. He would influence a fan base, or a generation, more than Jay or Kanye would now, but as far as "the Throne," Jay-Z is on the Throne, Kanye is probably right below him. Eminem isn't on top of the food chain in the rap game, but he's close. No new rapper would dare diss, start beef, etc. with any of the three (Jay, Kanye, Eminem). I'd throw in Nas in there somewhere, too.

How is it? I have seen mixed reviews on twitter and some of the people I trust the most on twitter say it sounds better each time they listen to it.

I agree. Except that The Game would start beef with them. I'd love to hear The Game diss Eminem just to hear Eminem's scathing reply.

And I like The Game but when Em is mad and issues a reply or diss there is no one better.

I like it. There's a little bit of everything on the album. It's pretty clear Kanye produced most of the album. It's rare to find an album where 90% of it is written and produced completely by the rapper or rappers in the album, so this one's special.

Good point! I'd say Jay-Z 10 years, Wayne 5 years and Eminem all day every day the better rapper between him and Kayne. I think Kayne is overrated and a punk.

I'm down with every word you said here. Couldn't agree more :thumb:.
