I am hearing some rumblings Shumate may be leaving Beechwood.

And where might he be going? Who would step into the Beechwood position this late in the game?

Coach Schmate has done a nice job but Coach Bohmer put them back on the map a few years prior.

I agree with the statement on Coach Bohmer he had them playing as a contender, but a few years under Herald and the program declined IMO. I don't want to take anything away from Coach Bohmer especially at this time.

At any rate, if this is true I hope Beechwood can bring in someone to keep the positive momentum going. Their program is heading in the right direction.

If true, why not give coach Miller a shot at the head spot? He has been there for a long time, and a Beechwood grad! I can't think of anyone that has been more loyal to the basketball program over the past 20 years or so!

Why would he leave? Did he get a new gig? Does he have some ties to the super who left recently?

Rumors have been going around for the last week that Shumate was a finalist for a job at a big school in southern Indiana so this would not be a shock. If he gets a job at a bigger school that is the right move for him personally, no one can fault him for that.

Good for him.

AURORA – Rick Shumate, boys varsity basketball coach at Beechwood (Ky.) High School for the past four years, was hired for the same position at South Dearborn Monday night.

 

Shumate, 42, replaces Toby Carrigan, who left SD to take the head coaching position at NCAA Division III College of Mount St. Joseph, in Cincinnati, in May.

Is South Dearborn a better job?? I personally wouldn't think so..

South Dearborn school is not even on the same level as Beechwood. the gym seats nearly 4,000. Has an aux gym and two other gyms in one of the other schools on campus! At Beechwood the varsity boys program would get bumped out of the gym by the Ft. Mitchell rec leagues on saturdays.

FYI, Shumate is either 47 or 48, I think he has some underwear that is 42 years old! :dancingpa Congrats to Rick, and to South Dearborn great fit for both!

Their previous coach just got a college job according to the article. And GG posted about the size of their gym and facilities. It sounds like a better job just based on those facts. Anytime you move from a 1A school to a large class school it is a step up.

 

As to assistants, I believe there are a couple of assistants who are probably qualified but I don't think either of them teach at the school. Do you think Listerman wants to be a head coach again? :sssh:
