From what I’ve read the guy didn’t ask for anything. He willingly gave the ball back to Jeter and now may face $14,000 in taxes because the Yankees gave him a suite for the rest of the season and some memorabilia.

How would that work if the Yanks or Jeter wanted to pay those taxes? Would he still have to pay taxes on a $14K donation/gift?

No taxes, it was a gift as he demanded nothing. Any good tax accountant or attorney wins this hands down. IRS won't pursue something like this where the publicity will kill them. Old IRS would have though.

Or stupid either way you look at it. He is 23 works for Verizon selling cell phones. Not saying that is a bad job but about 250K could go a long way in helping him have a nice comfortable life. Athletes including Jeter don't have a problem holding out for as much money as possible at the expense of the fans and he should have as well.

I honestly thought he did the right thing giving it back until I read this. I have officially changed my mind. I never thought about it like that but you are correct.

I dont get to negotiate for my contract every so often. I get paid what they say I get paid. Not complaining, I love my job. But hes right...Jeter held out this past off season for every penny of almost $20 million per season. He can fork over some cash if i catch that ball.
