2nd in points so if he is average everybody behind him sucks right? He finished second at Richmond with no breaks just shows he is a great driver! Leads in top 10s and 2nd in top 5s this season. Oh and they race at his favorite track where he will get a win. Talladega!

JR is definitely having a solid year. That said if he doesn't figure out how to win races he will not win a title. You can't place your way to the title any longer.

I think you can win the championship without winning a race, just great consistency every race.

^ His daddy would be proud if that happened.

Agreed.

I disagree, if he is consistent in the top 5 or 6, he will win the championship. But a few wins would help solidify his place in the standings when they place you from 1-12

He can save his wins till when the chase starts.

Right now if the chase started he would be 20 points behind Keselowski. He needs to win !

Jr. having his best year in a while, but he needs to get the monkey off his back.

Not sure how you figured that out? You only get 3 points for a win.

I wish JR would have went to Childress and drove the black 3

I agree with you on that. I would love to see Harvick and JR team mates.

That's a whole lot of pressure to put on yourself right there though. Even though JR. has embraced all of his fans handed down from his dad, he's shied away from being in his dad's spot light. He has wanted to be his own driver and create his own image and try to live out of his dads shadow. In my opinion nothing wrong with that. Now if he ever wins a title or two, then I could possibly see him going to RCR at some point and running the 3. BUT, without a title or even really being in contention all of these years, and after going into a huge winless slump, being in the number 3 makes it even that much more difficult. JR has finally started to put together a good season from the start for a change and I think its due in large part to having good cars to work with. He would often have fast cars at the super speedways for DEI but often his car would have break downs or malfunctions that would take him out of the race. Now that his cars have ran consistently and he has a solid team around him, he's seeing more success. I think he would still be DEI all the way right now if he was done fairly. It was really a tragic thing for that situation to play out the way it did. Earnhardt made that team to help his family, and Dale Jr. especially. He wanted the company to be something Dale Jr. could run one day but it ended up going to Teresa instead because they wouldn't at least give Dale Jr. a proper share of the company. So with all of the emotion of the situation I think it would have been very tough to go out there and drive your dads car and try to live up to that. I mean he's still trying to live up to that and he hasn't even had to be in that position. Time will eventually tell how good Jr. really is. Personally, he is my favorite driver although I'm a casual fan at best. I do believe he is a good driver, just feel he has had some really tough luck in the past. He's stayed out of accidents last year, and even more so this year, and his equipment's held up consistently. That's the two biggest differences, and it is really showing some results in the standings this year.
