June 23, 201115 yr Sad that he made a dumb decision, IMHO even more sad that he took someone else with him. I can't imagine how upset the passengers family must be. I'm sure they are upset, but no one forced him into that car.

While I agree; you have the bar manager saying he didn't seem "drunk" when he left(all though he could just be trying to save his own butt). It just makes you wonder how those last few seconds went, did his passenger tell him to slow down(did that cause the wreck), did he realize he was that drunk and acting wrecklessly when he was getting in the car with Dunn. Tough call and one we'll likely never no for sure but still sad either way.
June 23, 201115 yr He was over two times the legal drinking limit...driving 130 MPH...had 27 previous traffic violations. I'd say he was lucky to make it this long and the world is lucky that he didn't kill someone else.

June 23, 201115 yr Ya know, I hate for anyone to die but I feel less for the person when they act as stupid as he did that night. There is no reason whatsoever to ever drive at 130mph. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason for him to feel the need to drive when he is that drunk. Ridciulous. I feel for his family though. It's hard for me to work up much sympathy for the guy. I don't know who they could realistically sue, apart from perhaps the bar owner for his establishment serving a patron well beyond intoxication.

I had a friend that was in a very similar situation. He and his buddy were both hammered. They took off in my friends Trans Am doing 100 down main street in Henderson. He lost control and flipped it hitting some parked cars and telephone poles. My buddy was/is paralized from the chest down. His passenger got banged up but didn't have any long lasting injuries. He sued my buddy and won. Both were drunk, both were stupid, he just happened to be the one not driving.

June 23, 201115 yr Seems to me that if you are drinking all night with a friend, who you know is drunk with a bad history, and then get into a car and let them drive, you should take responsibility for your own stupid decision.
