May 26, 201115 yr How much does Phillips getting picked off last night hurt him with his team? Do they sluff it off? Or is it a play that irritates the team and causes problems with chemistry? At the least, it creates a problem going forward because the leash is now very short on Phillips with his team. I think this haunts him all season. Any minor slip up or lack of effort by Phillips will cause team mates to mumble and grind their teeth and talk about him in hushed tones and perhaps more. That game could be a big blow to the Reds team chemistry and psyche. Let's hope they do as they have done the past year and a half and rally back. It seems like over the last year+, every time the Reds look at their lowest they come back and play great baseball. My fingers are crossed that they do it again because they are definitely at a very low point today. To his credit, Phillips took 100% blame for the loss after the game. He didn't try to make excuses, owned up to it, and said it won't happen again.
May 26, 201115 yr At least Dusty didn't ruin a starters career last night in the 14th or so. It's all cherries this morning.

I love Phillips and hope he plays his entire career with the Reds. I am also looking forward to having one full season where Phillips doesn't have to apologize for something and say it won't happen again. Keep the fun and focus in their proper place.
May 26, 201115 yr Heard an interesting factoid this morning on ESPN. Prior to yesterday/earlier today's game, the last time a position player started a game in the field and then was moved to the pitcher position and picked up the win was in 1921 - Babe Ruth.
May 26, 201115 yr I think the Reds win today. For as good as Lee is, he's always been very average against the Reds. ERA near 5 if I'm not mistaken.
May 26, 201115 yr Will be interesting to see what Dusty does with Rolen today. You would think he would get the day off, but then you look at his numbers against Lee (8-17), and it's gotta be hard to sit someone who crushes him so bad.
May 26, 201115 yr Before yesterday's game I thought the Reds were going to win at least one of the games against Halladay and Lee and maybe both. So I will go with a Reds win today as well.

May 26, 201115 yr Stubbs CF Phillips 2B Votto 1B Cairo 3B Bruce RF Heisey LF Hanigan C Janish SS Bailey P Cairo in the 4 spot makes zero sense.
May 26, 201115 yr Stubbs CF Phillips 2B Votto 1B Cairo 3B Bruce RF Heisey LF Hanigan C Janish SS Bailey P Cairo in the 4 spot makes zero sense. Break up the lefties. Doesn't want to move Phillips back and forth between 2 spot and 4 spot. Phillips is going to stay in the two slot now as long as Rolen stays healthy. Assuming you don't want to move Phillips, who else would you hit 4? Not Heisey against Cliff Lee. Not Bruce putting two lefties back to back against Lee. Cairo is the best option and I like a veteran Cairo there behind Votto versus the other options.
May 26, 201115 yr In honor of the 19 inning game, some baseball trivia. What is the longest major league baseball game - by innings and by time (two different games)?
