Boyle County 2011

Featured Replies

Rebels have been on an impressive run in their own right. They have won 30 straight games and are 43-1 the last three years.

Everytime they've faced replacing a leader/star they have stepped up.

In 2008 the Rebels lost Jordan Aumiller (TE) to UK and their QB (Mason) graduated.

BC came back and went 15-0 behind the running of Rees MacShara and a stingy Defense. But he graduated, taking the running game (many thought) with him.

Still the Rebels returned in '10 to go 15-0 and win with a balanced rushing attach and a tough Defense led by All-American Dawson who has taken his talents to the West Coast and USC.

French will have his hands full replacing what he has lost but he seems to do it well.

I look for Boyle to struggle at points but be ready to make a run in the playoffs against some very good competition in Lexington Catholic and Highlands.

I was just thinking about this the other day and talk about being under the radar of success!

I'm sure Coach Roe will have the new line coached up and ready by August!

I feel pretty good about our O-Line. I feel better now than when I made that first post. I have no doubts that Coach Roe will have them ready to go.

I like the talent I see that is heading to middle school as well as in our youth leagues. We may be down for a year or two after 2012 but it won't be by much and by 2014 it will be business as usual. If anything our teams in 2013 and 2014 willl be led by younger players. We should continue to field very strong and competitive teams for years to come.

Im sure George Custer thought he was ready to go as well.:D

I think it's because of the success of 2 of the historical programs (HHS and Trinity) at the same time.

When Boyle ran off their 5 in a row no one else was doing it every year for those 5 years so that placed them in a larger light.

QB and O-Line. All new faces and names. With any new faces and names there is uncertainty. There may be a 2 way or 3 way battle at QB. I expect a 2 way battle between Tommy Hastings and Casey Whittle. Been hearing Hastings has the edge right now but we haven't gotten to July yet so I am taking that with a grain of salt. I am not worried but if there was a cause for concern anywhere on this year's team it is those two areas. I do trust our coaches to have the proper personnel on the field and ready to play. Knowing that Devon Cox will be in the backfield and that Jarrod Harrington catches absolutely everything thrown in his direction I don't worry much. Lloyd Hall and Blake Mason also have proven to have dependable hands as well. We just need to make sure our QB has time when needed, makes the right decisions and that Devon has some holes to run through. I love our talent at the skilled positions.

We replace Lamar Dawson and Chris Cook at LB. We won't replace Lamar's ability/potential as a linebacker but I don't expect to see any drop off in production at any linebacker spot. Zach Hester was arguably the second best LB on the team when healthy and he'll be back and Kyle Kephart is similar to Chris Cook. Not sure who will fill in the two spots at linebacker that are open but I am not worried about those spots. There are likely only 3 spots open on the entire defense and there will likely be some fierce competition for those 3 spots as well. I have no worries or concerns whatsoever with defense.

Its my understanding that you may see Cox moved to OLB. Also if Hastings starts at QB you could also see another corner as well. Could be some shake up in the secondary. Good thing is, this year they have a lot of options at db. Along with last years starters they have Burke, both Coffey's, Hellyer, Hall. May have missed someone but they have options.

I'd love to see Cox at LB and I was thinking of the same names you named as replacements in the secondary. Burke and Hellyer are certainly capable of replacing Cox and Hastings. Add in the Coffey's and Hall and things should be fine in the secondary. Especially with Jarrod Harrington still in the secondary.

My son and I had a discussion last week. Do you think it will hurt Hastings chances to start immediately with him being at Governor's Scholars for the next two weeks?

No more than Whittle missing Spring ball for baseball. First two weeks more conditioning than anything else anyway. Best QB on the field during spring. Explosive runner. The elder Coffey best corner on the field during sping game also. Just my opinion of course. Great to have him back.

I think Cox could be MONSTER at OLB. Very excited about that.

By the way, I know you boy's game is bball but he could be a contributor at wr/db.

Yeah, that's a great point about spring practice. I wish I could combine Hastings, Whittle and Hester into one kid. That being said I think Tommy has a great chance to be opening day starter. I guess we'll see. Either way it goes I like our depth at the QB spot.

I got excited when you mentioned Cox at LB also. I feel really good about the Dentists.....Cox, Hester and Kephart.

I'd put my son's chances of playing at 10%. He has been told he can play out his AAU season and then join the football team afer it is completed. I don't see that happening......but you never know. As of today he hasn't expressed any desire to play football.

Sorry Purple have to disagree big time with the 10%. I know his love is basketball which is very evident. However an athlete is a athlete. Rest assured French would find a place for him.

You may have misunderstood me. I am pretty sure he'd play and play often at wr/db if he decided to play. The 10% is chances he will decide to suit up. I told him about this conversation and he said, "really, well, I ain't playing.", so I'll put his chances at 5% that he will ever put on the pads for the Rebels.

Micah, Jarrod, Lloyd and Blake would be 8 hands that wouldn't drop very many balls. It'd be fun to watch.

In other news, Danville just found out this week that our inaugural bowl games are on the 27th of August and not the 26th. Needless to say.....Sam isn't pleased. Oops......

I don't see how it matters. They might not get a huge "non-partisan" crowd, but having Garrard, Lincoln, and Anderson playing in the Danville bowl should guarantee really good numbers. Those schools all travel really well for football.

I agree. Especially after seeing who is in the Pigskin Classic. Sad part is that all of the visiting schools will likely have a larger crowd than Danville given the proximity of the schools to Danville. Learning this new info both schools should have great gates and the city and county will both benefit from that weekend. I know firsthand that Sam is upset but now I really don't see what his problem with everything is. He needs to relax.

I think that Boyle should go after Stuart Powell Ford to sponsor their bowl.
