I was shocked the Q-School medalist only got $50,000. Given the pressure and the growing prestige of the tourney, I am shocked that the winner doesn't get more.

 

Of course, winning should help his endorsement negotiations, and that could really drag in some cabbage.

 

It was nice of the Golf Channel to cover him the last 3 holes yesterday, before that he was being treated as persona non grata.

It's not been too many years that, if I recall correctly, there was no prize money at q-school. They were playing mearly for the opportunity at the tour. I could be wrong but I am fairly sure.

For what it's worth, during the event he was on the leaderboard as "John B. Holmes". Obviously, some thought has been given to his name. Maybe he should go by "J.B. Holmes". Maybe they should just embrace it, kind of like OJ Mayo. I remember when OJ first got to Rose Hill, I wondered about "OJ" as a name. However, OJ quickly developed his own idenity, maybe Holmes can do the same thing. I hope so.

Holmes has already been picked up by Titleist before Q-School. If I was his agent I think I would be pulling a Drew Rosenhaus impersonation after this week!!! :laugh: The expenses can build up on a rookie tour player under pressure to keep his card, but I think John will be very marketable for someone. I don't think he'll see 7 digits yet, but lets just say next season will be an all expenses paid trip on tour. Don't be surprised to see him make some noise either.

One of the anaylst for this week's PGA telecast said that Holmes was the one new player on next year's tour that could make an immediate impact. He said he saw him play a 600+ yard par 5 that the pros had a lot of trouble reaching in two with woods, and John did it with a driver and a 6 iron. Two of the local guys from my county who have played some on the Hooter's Tour, and can both drive the ball consistently over 300 yards, said they had played in events with John, and he could easily outdrive them 20 to 30 yards with a three wood. They told me that Tiger would have trouble driving up with him. That's scary :scared: .

That thought should "perk up" some to the PGA brass!! Seriously, congratulations to John on this accomplishment. Kentucky golf is alive and well!!

Did anyone get to see Holmes put up the "Y" yesterday?
