The Q School replay of today's round is on the Golf Channel right now.

Kentucky's John Holmes is tied for the lead at -21 through 5 rounds with one more day to play. Looks like he will be a PGA Tour member next year.

Anyone know how John is doing in the final round?

John is -1 through 6 holes and -22 overall. His playing partners today are DA Points (+3 through 6) and Michael Allen (+2 through 6). Therefore John is currently 3 clear of the field. I don't know if the conditions are tough today or just normal Round 6 at "Q" School tensions. John birdied 1 and 2, bogeyed 3, and parred 4,5 and 6.

I was shocked the Q-School medalist only got $50,000. Given the pressure and the growing prestige of the tourney, I am shocked that the winner doesn't get more.

 

Of course, winning should help his endorsement negotiations, and that could really drag in some cabbage.

Endorsements are very big from what I understand.

No idea about the entry fee being refunded, but honestly, that would surprise me. Honestly -- have no idea.

 

With a Q-school medalist and Walker Cup on his resume' (and Digger and Jahearme could probably explain further), I would be shocked if Holmes' endorsements don't get near 1/2 million.

Here is what I found...

 

Entry fees in 2005 for the PGA TOUR are as follows: first-stage qualifying is $4,500, second-stage qualifying is $4,000 and the finals is $3,500. The medalist at the final stage receives $50,000 and all players at least earning exempt Nationwide Tour status earn prize money.

Holmes is -2 through 10 holes and sits at -23 for the Tourney. He is two clear of Alex Cejka.

 

The tough day (so far) award at this point goes to Matthias Gronberg of Sweden, through 13 holes he has gone from T10 to out of the Top 30. He has some holes left, but he is probably starting to press a little at this point.

Special mention to American Alex Aragon -- through 15 holes he is -6 on the day and has gone from T65 to T24 and sitting on the number. What a move. Hope he holds it together.
