April 25, 201115 yr I love it! Pick-up trucks parked behind their cars, the tow truck needs repairs and can't move the pick-up trucks for several hours. All these conicidences!
April 25, 201115 yr "You never planned on bombs in the sand or sleeping in your Dress Blues." Beautiful.
April 25, 201115 yr "You never planned on bombs in the sand or sleeping in your Dress Blues." Beautiful. Yep - that's a great song, and it's even better when it's used appropriately for a tribute like that. Jason Isbell might actually be my favorite songwriter actively out there right now. My favorite line is "mommas and grandmommas love you, that's all they know how to do". I saw Jason Isbell play down in Louisville with formerkywrestler a couple of Fridays back, and I'm planning on going to see him play again in May at the Southgate House in Newport. He's a great down-to-earth songwriter with plenty of great pieces like that one.
April 25, 201115 yr I despise the Westboro Baptist Church, but would we be so quick to cheerlead this kind of "justice" if it were another group, perhaps one we agreed with? It wasn't too long ago similar tactics were commonly used in the South against minorities after the law gave them rights people didn't think they deserved. And before anyone tries it, I'm not comparing these people to racists, but making the point that it's dangerous when we say the law should not be enforced equally or underhanded tactics should be used by authorities to deny people rights.
April 25, 201115 yr Whenever a young man or woman dies while on faraway soil and then is brought home for the final time I think of this song.
April 25, 201115 yr One can only hope they try and sue Brandon, I can promise you Missisisppi Judges won't be receptive to their message.

Habib - fair question and one that should always be asked.
April 26, 201115 yr Brings to mind Judge Carl Rubin's decision granting the Klan the right to have a display next to the Christmas tree on Fountain Square in Cincinnati. Judge Rubin was a devout member of the Jewish faith and fierce in every sense of the word. Although he found the Klan "odius and despicable" , their right to freedom of expression was preserved.
April 26, 201115 yr I just don't see the comparison to minority discrimination. Westboro and the Klan should be muted because of what they do, not because of what they are.
April 26, 201115 yr I just don't see the comparison to minority discrimination. Westboro and the Klan should be muted because of what they do, not because of what they are. "What they do" is a dangerous precendent if "what they do" is not illegal. The Klan does not fall under Federal discrimination laws so their beliefs are not illegal and protected.

April 26, 201115 yr One can only hope they try and sue Brandon, I can promise you Missisisppi Judges won't be receptive to their message. Actually I hope they don't try, this is one of the ways Westboro makes their money. Almost all in Westboro are lawyers, and they sue if cities or counties attempt to stop them, remember in early March the US Supreme Court voted 8-1 in favor of Westboro's First Amendment rights. Cities and counties settle a lot to save money, and Westboro sets their laywer fees that need to be paid by the cities and counties, as they are their own lawyers. The people in Topeka HATE them as much as we do, But they also know they are good lawyers and they undercut fees charges by others, so if you are near Topeka and facing legal troube, you want to go to them for legal help. These are the two main ways they make their money to travel all over the place. I think it is GREAT what the people of that town did to them! I wish more were like this! I just hope it can't be proven that the police took them away from the funeral to question them on a trumped up crime just to get them away, as this will only line their pockets. I was told that they put several funerals on their website saying they will be there to protest but they don't plan to attend at all, they just want to see what area may give them trouble about protesting and try to stop them, then they go after that town or county legally.
