My guess is Westboro learns from this and changes tactics to avoid getting shut out again.

Pretty cool though.

Whenever a young man or woman dies while on faraway soil and then is brought home for the final time I think of this song.

Such a good song that too few people know.

"What they do" is a dangerous precendent if "what they do" is not illegal. The Klan does not fall under Federal discrimination laws so their beliefs are not illegal and protected.

8-1 vote from the Supreme Court that what they do is illega. I'm with the 1. These idiots should be stopped - legally or not.

What did the Court rule exactly?

I used that number from a post SportsGuy made (post 15):

Actually I hope they don't try, this is one of the ways Westboro makes their money. Almost all in Westboro are lawyers, and they sue if cities or counties attempt to stop them, remember in early March the US Supreme Court voted 8-1 in favor of Westboro's First Amendment rights

Oh. You said 8-1 what they do is illegal so I was confused.

I don't use "hate" very often but it applies to Westboro and the KKK. Useless people - demented.

However, they have rights as much as we "hate" them or what they do. How can you be for the freedoms this country gives us AND be for not allowing them to express their opinions?

My opinion is that I drive just fine at 80 but it's not good for the whole - so it's not allowed. There are all kinds of "rights" that are taken away because of the greater good. I have no problem judging the actions of these people and saying they shouldn't have the right to do the things they are doing.

But then - I'm intolerant of a lot of garbage we're supposed to accept as being ok these days.

While I understand your point your example doesn't apply. Driving isn't a right and the speed limit is for safety reasons.

I will say though I think once your right to express your opinion tramples on my right to moron the loss of a loved one you should be forced to take your right somewhere else. I think they should have the right to protest what they want but they shouldn't be allowed to do with in 1 mile of the casket.

Poor example with driving... I wanted to go with smoking but I know that would take the thread off track.

I agree with all of the 2nd paragraph. And the 1 mile rule should be at ALL times - even when being transported in the car.

That's why I said casket, I figured that was easier then listing all the places it might be. I wonder what the westboro moron's real motivation is. Attention and money keeps popping up to the top of the list but there a lot easier ways to get money then what they do. They are obvioulsy intelligent people and to waste it on this crap just doesn't make sense.

Has anyone thought to start picketing the funerals of the Westboro Baptist Church members?

They would probably love the publicity. Bunch of sick people.

Cities and counties settle a lot to save money, and Westboro sets their laywer fees that need to be paid by the cities and counties, as they are their own lawyers. The people in Topeka HATE them as much as we do, But they also know they are good lawyers and they undercut fees charges by others, so if you are near Topeka and facing legal troube, you want to go to them for legal help. These are the two main ways they make their money to travel all over the place.

I think it is GREAT what the people of that town did to them! I wish more were like this! I just hope it can't be proven that the police took them away from the funeral to question them on a trumped up crime just to get them away, as this will only line their pockets.

I was told that they put several funerals on their website saying they will be there to protest but they don't plan to attend at all, they just want to see what area may give them trouble about protesting and try to stop them, then they go after that town or county legally.

I don't think they can stand if they sue, I've spoke to some people I know high up in Brandon the police stuff as far as questioning never happened, and it seems well planned out that the only punishment out there are some parking tickets for the vehicles that were illegally parked. Good luck proving those vehicles were in any way tied to the government.
