April 20, 201115 yr Why?Does it really have to be explained? Surely you understand that the "N word" has a historic connotation that is inflammatory, just as the chimpanzee references do.
April 20, 201115 yr No more so than a boatload of other politicians and organizations. It seems like a lack of judgement seems to be required to get elected these days.Actually, I deleted the post because I don't know if she has a Tea Party position. She does have one with the Republican Party. In any case, she showed an appalling lack of judgment and sensitivity.
April 20, 201115 yr Regardless of how many times somebody on "my side" or "your side" did something similar, it was ignorant. End of story. Amen. But why is it that every time someone posts a thread like this, another poster has to counter with an example from the "other side?"
April 20, 201115 yr Amen. But why is it that every time someone posts a thread like this, another poster has to counter with an example from the "other side?" Probably because those who post these threads and are quick to chastize those who make the stupid remarks are no where to be found when the same issue arises from the other side. In those cases all we hear are crickets.
April 20, 201115 yr Does it really have to be explained? Surely you understand that the "N word" has a historic connotation that is inflammatory, just as the chimpanzee references do. Surely you understand that groups often use derogatory terms within the group that are fighting words when used outside the group? How is Biden/Palin any different? Call my wife a pit bull with lipstick and we fight. If I say it it's ok. Sort of.
April 20, 201115 yr Probably because those who post these threads and are quick to chastize those who make the stupid remarks are no where to be found when the same issue arises from the other side. In those cases all we hear are crickets. True dat. It's always more offensive when the other side does it but your own side, now THAT'S different.
April 20, 201115 yr How is Biden/Palin any different?Palin called herself the exact same thing. Using the "N word" makes it entirely different ... sorry if you can't see that.
April 20, 201115 yr Amen. But why is it that every time someone posts a thread like this, another poster has to counter with an example from the "other side?" Probably because the offense is so ignorant that there is no defense other than to try to find someone else who did the same thing and say, "see, this person wasn't the only one." Then we get into an amusing discussion about which side is worse than the other. Junior high debate team comes to mind.
April 21, 201115 yr Palin called herself the exact same thing. Using the "N word" makes it entirely different ... sorry if you can't see that. Sorry you've never heard black people call each other the N word or other groups insult each other but not get offended unless someone from outside the group uses the same insult.
April 21, 201115 yr Sorry you've never heard black people call each other the N word or other groups insult each other but not get offended unless someone from outside the group uses the same insult.I've heard it a lot of times ... that doesn't make it right for me or you to use the word. It's an ugly word with an ugly history.
April 21, 201115 yr Author Regardless of the racial debate, the handling of this email by the Tea Party leader shows such a lack of judgment that she can not continue in a leadership position. If the Tea Party allows her to be in a leadership role, they create big questions about their judgment and/or intentions as a group. Give me a break. Did you feel the same way with the comment made about Palin during the last election? Wasn't it Biden who said something like a "pitbull with lipstick"? You two don't think this is a terrible lack of judgment? Then with all the furor and the previous racially tinged Tea Party incidents you think it is ok for this lady to have a leadership role in the Tea Party? Regardless of how you feel about this incident, I don't see how you can disagree with that.
April 21, 201115 yr VOR-this is an area where you and I always disagree. The Tea Party is best suited to not have leadership from the traditional sense, and the reason is because it is a ground up movement. This frustrates the media and political parties, because they would like to box them in, but who is the leader of the Tea Party? We know the leader of the Dems is President Obama, and I suppose the leader of the Republicans now is John Boehner, and these two groups have gotten us into the mess we are in now. As I predicted to you long ago when Rand Paul went up against Trey Grayson, the status quo isn't going to cut it any more. This will be easy pickens for you, but the Tea Party is more closely akin to a terrorist group, that sends our military into a tizzy. We don't know how to deal with that and still don't. We want everybody to play by the rules that we set up as fair. The terrorists could care a less about our rules. They use our rules against us in combat. The Tea Party gives not a whit as to the R or the D. The R's and the D's can't understand why everybody isn't delighted with them. The reason is because the system is corrupt, and both parties are only concerned with gathering money to quench their ever growing desire to have more and more money and more and more power. I think the folks in the middle finally have seen through this charade.
April 21, 201115 yr Author ^ History ... I am all for the Tea Party movement putting pressure on our government officials. That is why I don't want to see someone with such a lack of judgment bring disregard to the movement. The Tea Party needs to disassociate itself from people who make decisions like this or they will lose credibility.
April 21, 201115 yr I've heard it a lot of times ... that doesn't make it right for me or you to use the word. It's an ugly word with an ugly history. I agree.
April 21, 201115 yr You two don't think this is a terrible lack of judgment? Then with all the furor and the previous racially tinged Tea Party incidents you think it is ok for this lady to have a leadership role in the Tea Party? Regardless of how you feel about this incident, I don't see how you can disagree with that. Do I think it such that she can't continue in a Tea Party leadership position based on what we know right now? No, I think you're going way overboard wtihout knowing more about the situation or her history. Do you even know that she has a leadership position in the Tea Party? I haven't seen that anywhere. As I understand it she forwarded an email. I could have done the same thing because I think it's a funny picture and my first thought was not of the racial overtones. Now, if she created the email that's another thing completely because she would have had time to think about it. If she had a history of other iincidents I would also say remove her, if she's in a leadership position. If we remove leaders for single incidents where they show a lack of judgement we would be scrounging for leaders even more so than we currently are. Edited April 21, 201115 yr by 75center
