Highlands Players Sign Scholarships

Featured Replies

Four Highlands players signed their letters of intent to play college football today after school. Austin Abner (defensive back) signed as a preferred walk-on at the University of Illinois; Ethan Bishop (outside linebacker) signed with University of Cumberlands; Ryan Hahn (center) signed with Hanover College; and Daniel Gold (wide receiver) signed with Valpariso University. Also, Ashley Collinsworth, Cris's daughter, signed to run track at Harvard.

That's fantastic! All great kids going to wonderful schools. All the best to each for a successful future.

I thought Adam Weinel was going there also.

Congratulations to each and every one.

He is. I believe he signed earlier.

Adam Weinel signed with Valpo earlier along with Austin Hollingsworth who signed with Morehead State University.

Congratulations to these kids.

Do you sign a letter of intent if you're a walk on?

Congratulations to these kids.

I was wondering the same thing. Could someone clarify if a walk on does indeed sign a LOI?

When you go to a D3 or non-scholarship college, I don't think you "sign a scholarship" since technically there are no scholarships. i think you have consulted with the coaching staff, and they want you to play there and you also want to play there. The staff may be able to help you with some work-study jobs.

Often time these are ceremonies to honor the young men who will be continuing their playing days regardless of there being a scholarship or not.

Hats off to the young men.

Great job to all those mediocre seniors.

Congratulations to all! It is great to see these athletes have the opportunity to continue competing at the next level. The paper also mentioned Lauren Harrett, golfer, signed with Christian Brothers so congrats to her as well.

Thanks Bad Bill for your continued support and loyalty to our Highlands community. Do you or anyone else have any pictures that you can share with BGP of these accomplished Student Athletes?

You are correct about D3, in that there are no athletic scholarships, however there can be academic scholarships or other financial aid. The Signing Ceremony is usually tied with a Letter of Intent to attend a DI school on an athletic scholarship, which is a general indication that the athlete is off the market as far as recruiting goes. I like the fact that all the athletes who have chosen to continue to play get recognized, even though they are signing a Financial Aid package acceptance vs. an ahletic scholarship.

Congrats to all!
