Koran burning pastor

Recommended Posts

Well, the "so-called" pastor who last fall decided to do the smart thing and not go through with his Koran burning, did hold a "trial of Islam" recently and did burn a Koran, and video taped it and put it online. It resulted in protests in Afghanistan that ended in a killing spree that killed at least 12 at a UN complex. This guy was warned this would happen! Yet he doesn't feel responsible?

Why should he? He didn't kill the people. How many people are killed when someone burns an American Flag? The people that are responsible for the deaths are the MORONS who get their knickers all in a bunch whenever anyone says anything negative about Islam. I think the whole act of burning a Koran is a little silly and disrespectful but I don't hold that man responsible for the actions of the zealots any more then I hold the cartoonist who had the audacity to draw a picture of Mohammad responsible for the riots that followed that.

Hmmm, he is a "so-called" pastor and his actions led to the deaths of others, and after he was warned about this back in September? The government basically begged him not to do it and said it would put others including US troops in danger. This guy ONLY did this for his own publicity, and not worried about the consequences of his actions.

He shouldn't have done it, but him burning a book doesn't justify killing people. The Islamist extremist are responsible for the deaths. You can't use actions against a book to justify murdering someone, the people killed were not attacking those that killed them, so nothing about their deaths are justified by anything that has been done.

So then the next time say a group if illegals burns a US flag and some idiot white supremacist goes on a rampage and kills some people claiming an insult to the US because of the flag burning you'll place the blame squarely at the feet of the illegals correct?

I'm sorry but to place blame for these deaths at anyplace other then the thugs that committed the acts is ridiculous and gives unwarranted credibility to the beliefs of those thugs.

I agree with you to a point, but it's hard to compare SOME people in one group with SOME or all people in another group.

But the topic is not what a Christian would do, well at least most Christians would do if someone burned the Bible. The topic is what some Muslims would do, and what even a fewer number would do if this guy burned the Koran. This guy was not only warned by the government as well as them basically begging him, other religious groups and churches warned and begged him too! He knew what would happen, it doesn't matter if he or anyone else doesn't think one should kill over his actions, the fact is he knew it would happen!

So why did he go ahead and do it anyway? When he knew it would cause trouble? Most of us see where he was being disrespectful. Maybe he wanted to stir the pot even harder? Creating an atmosphere that would outrage Christians and get them on board with his agenda?

Again, this issue is not about what Christians would do, or what some Americans may do if someone burned the US flag.

A LOT of people on here, including myself, would like to see someone put an end to Rev Phelps life during one of his protest. He is disrespectful to many people, but is protesting a reason to want harm on him? Including him protesting a funeral? Now, when someone finally gets so enraged over his protests and kills him and maybe even his kids or grand kids who's fault is it? No, we don't want to their kids to be harmed, but if they are you know what people will say: " Well, it's Rev Phelps own fault, he knew the dangers of his protests!"

We may get enraged at what he does, but hey it's nothing that someone should harm him over is it? MANY people will say it is enough for someone to cause harm to him, we had discussions on here in the past and many said they would like to see someone finally shut him up for good! Now, when someone does pull the trigger so to speak on Phelps, who's fault is it? His? Or the people who actually caused the injury or death? My money says an overwhelming amount of Americans would say what I said above, that it was his and only his fault, as he knew the danger he was putting not only himself in, but his family a few friends and even their children.

So, why did this pastor do this when he knew the reaction? A quote I always use from Newton, "For every action there is a reaction", he knew what the reaction would be, be that reaction right or wrong, he knew what it was, yet he did it anyway, as he didn't care! As long as he got his name out there again and fueled the fire and got people to join his cause. Heck, I'll send this guy money for a flight over there, let him burn the Koran in Afghanistan and lets see what happens, Oh! That's right, he WON'T, as he knows it will cost him his life! But he isn't concerned it would cost others their lifes.

the ones who did the killing are idiots that are just wanting to kill for the sake of killing. When they burn our Bibles we dont go around killing Muslims in America. Matter of fadct we probably can not even disagree with the Muslims because of the Hate Crime laws.

Everything you said is true HT. However here is my beef with this pastor, or Robertson, or the late Falwell or so many of the media mogul Pastors.

They don't realize that these inflammatory media events put missionaries in danger who are overseas. Missionaries who don't make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, or worry about media coverage, or even worry about "Making a point." Missionaries who put their calling to serve others and share Christ in their ministry overseas as paramount over everything else. That's what makes me :madman:.

It's easy to burn a Koran, preach against the violence of Islam and call Mohammad a pedophile from the safety of these shores but they have indirectly unleashed a malestrom of problems on simple missionaries on other shores. :irked:

My son is currently in Afghanistan and talking with him through skype, he would love to go and kick this Nuts rear end. It had been peaceful until this Jack Rabit showed himself. My son said many folks have been killed because of him. Plus he has put many relationships in danger that our soldiers have worked hard to build. Also because the Afghans are so angry that he has placed the lives of many soldiers in danger. (yes being there they are in danger, but now they have to be concerned about the Afghan.)

I don't want to pick apart a post...but seriously? You wish for the guy to be killed? Seems a little drastic, actually seems kind of in line with what the Muslim Extremists are doing because he burned their book.
