This year's vs. last year's 3A title game

Where were they when the state finals were played last yr. Oh thats right they were watching from the sidelines. :fight:

I'd have to agree with this sentiment. That 2004 BC-LC game was the first of the entire year for both teams, and it was at LC. I would be surprised if LC came within a TD of BC by the end of last year. 2004 BC vs. 2005 LC, however, may be a very different matchup!!!!!!!

HHS defense manhandles any team in 3A this year.

The 4 D-1 players on HHS' 2004 squad:

1. SR Jordan Nevels (UK)

2. SR Mike Mitchell (Ohio)

3. SR Justin Auton (EKU - D I-AA, which is still D-1)

4. JR Ben Guidugli (has accepted a football scholarship to UC)

Also, very possibly 2004 SR Mike Stowers will eventually be a D-1 player.

Also, if 2005 BG and 2004 HHS played, the final score may have been 2-0, given how good both teams' defenses were/are!!!!

Mitchell didn't play in the championship game. I think most would agree that since he scored both of Highlands TDs against Bell, that if the judge had acted sooner the Birds wouldn't even be in the final.

And everyone should agree that no one will ever know either scenario. Whether Bell would've won (doubt it) or which teams are better, 03 or 04.

And I can just as easily say that most knowledgeable Highlands people (you know people who actually watched the kids in multiple practices and games) would agree that Hubbard would have done a very good job substituting for Mitchell in the Bell County game. In fact, I can easily make the argument that Hubbard, a power bull type runner, should have been at the running back position all game against Bell due to field conditions and if he had been the game would not have been as close as it was. Can I back my statement up? Sure, with about as much credibility as you can back up your statement. Give it up. We have one more state championship than you do. Live with it until this Friday night. Your boys will have the opportunity to tie it up. If they do, congrats to them. I won't begrudge them for doing it one bit.

Did all four play in the championship game? Who were they and where are they playing now? Did they all get full rides? Just wondering.

Ben Guidugli........

Kind of touchy aren't we? First, I never saw Mitchell play so I don't have a personal theory in the matter. I based my comment on a discussion I had with Bell's head coach. He felt that no way Highlands wins if they weren't allowed to use Mitchell. Made sense at the time based on the fact that Mitchell did all the scoring in the game. If I remember correctly, Mitchell didn't just score on offense. Does that affect your theory? As far as credibility goes try this on for size. Mitchell did score, that is a fact. Hubbard didn't score, and to assume that he would is fantasy. Note the difference.

FYI, it really doesn't matter to me how many championships Highlands has. You guys have a fine program and I have no reason to begrudge your team for holding any records. :thumb:

Wow! Discussion with Bell's head coach????? He has no dog in that fight, does he?

It's difficult to compare high school teams from different years to one another. However, the invention of the time machine (a real one, not those fakes you see in the movies) could settle questions such as this one some day. :D

On a serious note, I would have a hard time betting against Highlands if such a game were possible.

Not really, I met him for the first time in my life outside the stadium waiting to go in. He was a pretty interesting guy really. He had a totally different angle on football than the one we experience at Trinity. I don't believe he was lying though. Mitchell did score both of Highlands TDs and he was ruled ineligible the following week. Those are the facts aren't they?

Considering the way Highlands thumped Boyle County without Mitchell, I suspect they could have gotten by all right without him. Just because he scored the TDs doesn't mean someone else wouldn't have.

If I remember correctly, Mike scored on a defensive play or special teams or something other than a standard offensive play. He also scored on offense. That game was a lot closer than the final against Boyle, so by your logic Boyle would have kept it closer had Mitchell played in the final. I'm at a loss as to the final in the Bell game (the records have been cleared and it appears as a 1-0 loss) but I'm pretty sure it went down to the wire at the end.

to assume that he would is fantasy

And to assume Bell would've won the game had Mitchell not played isn't fantasy? C'mon, it's time to let it go.

Indicating that AT THE TIME of the game, he was eligible :thumb:

Well, each of these four teams being considered had close calls in the playoffs.

Boyle County lost to HHS in the state finals, even with HHS not having Mitchell

Highlands barely got by Bell County, winning by less than a TD.

LexCath was down by double-digits to CCH, and had to hold off a late surge by CCH in order to escape with the win.

Bowling Green won a game 3-0 against Hopkinsville. In such a game, one play could have changed the outcome.

(Plus, either LC or BG will actually lose this weekend).
