March 17, 201115 yr I agree with this line. You liberals never cease to amaze me. You want to take from everyone else in the name of common common good except when it involves you. Let's tax the evil rich more (while I continue to take deductions to reduce what I have to pay), let's make everyone else pay more for medical insurance (while we fight to keep our coverage that is 100% paid for by someone else). Education is not and should not be a sacred cow. Makes the assumption that cuts have not occurred in Education and that education has been held as a sacred cow. For the record, Education has absorbed cuts every year, like everything else.

How about instead of attacking individuals of any class we attack the government for their failure to do the job they were elected to do. I am not saying tax increases are completely off the table but until the government, state and federal, can quit spending money like it's someone elses then the words tax increase should never enter the conversation. And I don't see All Tell slamming teachers. He is simply stating that NO area of government spending is off limits. Maybe government's job is to increase taxes? I saw a stat recently that stated our current tax rate is at or near the lowest rate in the past 30 years. Even Ronald Reagan raised taxes when it had to be done. Ego; side benefits (including unethical ones such as what Williams makes from the Indiana casino operators for his work in keeping an expanded gambling proposal dead in committee). They probably ought to be doing it for free.

Our current government financial woes have nothing to do with revenue. They have everything to do with the feds and states not knowing how to live within their means. They also have everything to do with the feds being too big for their britches. The federal government has been allowed to grow into something it was never intended to be. If government raised taxes to eliminate the deficit they would only increase spending.
March 18, 201115 yr my wife has family that teach, if they make 30,000 a year, that is before taxes. So that makes it around 22,000 a year. really not much after they pay into retirement, taxes, etc. I dont know of any teachers living a rich life.

I believe the starting salary for KY teachers is a little over $30,000 and the avg is a little over $45,000.

March 24, 201115 yr What is the average salary for a person that has a master's degree and is in the business world? I believe that you will find that teachers are in the middle to middle high on the salary scale (if you pro-rate their salaries for a 52 week period) compared to someone in the business world with a master's. In actual dollars they are down the scale. So that arguement of working a shorter work year does not hold much water.
