The officials did in 2008 finals and 2010 semifinals.

And those were phantom fouls. One of which determined who went to Rupp in 2008.

Unfortunately they did not wave off Rowans tech. Should have too but the main point is how poorly this game was officiated for both teams.

Wrong players charged, got numbers backwards etc. Just ref work 101 stuff that was messed up for both teams all night long.

Inexcusable at this level.

Listened to the game on Pegasus. Of course they are Oldham's radio station and did a good job. Even they said that Brockman was fouled. Not by Rowan who made a clean block but by another player. You take the ball to the rim hard is all you can do. Not too many officials are going to give you that call in the last couple of seconds of the game. Great job Bearcats.

 

I wasn't at the game but talked to a few people who were, and apparently there was contact. IMO, whether it is the end of the game or the beginning, if it is a foul it is a foul and you are supposed to call it. Doesn't matter if it is in the last few seconds and could decide the game. Your not 'Giving' the team the foul call, if it is a foul it is a foul and you call it.

Agree with Mustang Nation. Hand checks all nite by both teams. Rowan was getting bodied hard all nite (no calls). Walton was getting to the rim and bodied all nite (no calls toward the end of the game). Same ref called a charge and a technical to Walton and got the number of the player wrong. McNeil charged and the ref charged the foul to Moeves. Brockman and Rowan were called for double technical fouls and Moeves was charged with Walton's technical. The ball was almost thrown inbounds when the ref's changed the technical to Brockman. Wow!!!

No, I'm not kidding. I just have not seen his name out there for quite awhile.

The Final shot was a block. The officials were not bad. They got some numbers wrong but did go back and fix them. I would take those officials over a lot of the 8th region officials. Good game to watch by both teams.

They did go back and fix the technical but the charging call was giving to the wrong number. McNeil charged (#22) and they gave it to Moeves (#3). It did not affect the game ....... but I've not seen that happen all season long. The officiating wasn't bad however.... good ref's don't mixup numbers.

Thanks for the kind words, Weakside. We do our darnedest during the region to be EVERYONE's station, not just Oldham's, although we do cover the Colonels, Mustangs, and Dragons during the regular season. I take pride in being the "unofficial voice of the 8th region tournament". And the guys I have announcing pretty much tell it like they say it - regardless.

 

But just a clarification about what we saw and what we said....we saw Brockman attack the basketball from the baseline on the left side, Rowan blocking the shot, followed by another North player - who was on the other side of Rowan, coming from the right side of the basket - colliding with Brockman in mid-air after the shot. The collision had nothing to do with the shot or the block.

There was no foul at the end. This was a great game to watch and the refs did a good job. Walton just came up short, N.O. was more talented and I feel had a better game plan. The best team won on this night.

If you have the more talented team and the game hinges on one play then I'm not sure you had the best game plan. Believe me I'm not taking anything away from Coach Henley, but Coach Trame is a pretty good coach.
