Yes, Ellie is Mark's daughter! I'm sure you mean 'the rat' in the most endearing of ways......

 

In my opinion, there were two keys stretches for NDA in the 4th quarter of this game when Ryle was making their comebacks. First, with about 4 minutes to go Hannah Thelan came back into the game and made back to back outstanding plays leading to 4 consecutive points for the Pandas (basket and then a steal and foul, made both free throws) and then Ellie, after Ryle mounted another comeback on a basket and then an old fashioned 3 point play (missed free throw though). I thought those two stretches were key to the Pandas hanging on for the victory last night.

 

The comment of the night was when Hannah Thelan fouled out and a shout from the stands was 'Good game Hannah, you fouled out by committing only 3 fouls'. Her last two fouls were extremely questionable at best. However, the section I was in, enjoyed that very humorous comment.

 

Anyway, congratulations to Ellie, Hannah and all the NDA girls on an outstanding quarterfinal game and congratulations to the NDA coaching staff on a very solid game plan. Even when things were getting nervous at the end the coaches seemed very calm and composed which looked like helped the girls to do the same.

 

It was a very exciting and well played game. One of the better women's games I've seen in a long time.

Wow it did not take long for the Oliverio haters to get on line and blame her for the loss. How professional is it for a softball umpire to get on line and blast a coach? Everytime Ryle has lost this year the same posters get on line and make snide remarks about the coach. Talent does not always win especially when the shots are not dropping.. I doubt Pat Summitt could have won against a team shooting 65% against her. It usally a sign of good coaching when a team can come back from being down by a large margin to make a game of it in the last quarter. All the other coaches with the exception of Nell get a pass on these forums. I can remember when Nell first started and for several years afterwards parents wanted her fired. But she had the support of administration and 600+ wins later she is considered the best. Does it have anything to do with posters that are jealous,sexist, or misogynist? It is hard to believe that a coach who goes 23-7 is criticized to the level that happens here. It seems personal to me.

Just logged on and the first mention of Olivia Voskuhl was in the box score a few posts back. She is only a sophomore, had a double, double last night (17 pts, 10 boards), and is quietly having an excellent season. Maybe it's because for most of the season the paper kept referring to her as Boskuhl.

It will be a great match-up between her and Nicole Kiernan of NCC in the semifinals.

First of all let me congratulate the Pandas for a hard fought victory. They played well from the start and deserved their win tonight. I also want to congratulate my Lady Raiders for another exciting season and for giving it all you've got. Your shots didn't fall tonight and getting down 22 makes for a difficult comeback but you would not quit.

I want to thank Abby and Liz for all of their leadership and for giving your all in your Ryle careers. We will miss you.

Do I think our team was a disappointment? Not a chance. They were #1 or #2 locally all year long against a very strong schedule. They were in the State's Top 10 most of the season. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't every team in the State , with the exception of the State Champion, end their season with a loss? Even Coach Fookes with her 600 plus victories has ended every season with a loss. Nothing to be ashamed of, IMO.

Friday's games should be exciting. Good luck to the remaining 4 teams.

I brought this up earlier in the year when Ryle was traveling so much, but now that their season ended earlier than expected it seems to make more sense. Did the tough Ryle schedule early inthe year wear the girls down. I believe in playing a tough schedule, but all that travel I think can be exhausting on young girls. Ryle seemed to regress as the year wore on. (after the 1st BC game) This team has a alot of talent and a team like this should improve as the year goes on. IMO

Fair or not when you have the most individual talent in the region you are expected to win. It's that simple. No one, including Boone, has as much individual talent as Ryle does.

 

You(not you shooter) can't bash the previous coach who had little talent and then give the current coach a pass when she has supreme talent.

 

Again, might not be fair but expectations for Ryle were higher than this.

I mentioned this earlier in the year but don't uyou think all of the traveling eary in the year may have taken these girls legs away lately. traveling so much uch does tend to wear players down late in the season. I know they traveled out of state and to several tournaments a few hours away. I am i favor of playing top competition . I just think the travel needs to be monitored a little bit. Young players need their rest and on those road trips there is little rest. This group of girls have alot of talent but after the first BC game the seemed to regress not get better. A team should get better as the season progresses for some reason this team did not. IMO

You did indeed. She is very workmanlike in her approach... like her father Jeff who played for Dixie in the late 70s and her mother (Wessleman) who I believed played at Dixie as well around the same time frame.

I am new to this website and very disappointed as to the amount of bashing of coaches, referees and players that goes on in these forums. Although I've not seen many Ryle games this year, I did happen to attend the regular season game against Boone and the District Championship game against Boone and I agree Ryle has some very talented young woman but they are missing one key piece of the puzzle that makes a team complete.......a couple true post players (or even one would have helped). This just isn't something a high school coach can control (in most cases). If you have no big, strong athletic girls try-out for the team, then you have to go with what you have since recruiting players in HS is illegal (again for most). For this reason, from my understanding, Ryle has had to convert Jenna Crittenden to play a post position when she was actually mostly a shooting guard/forward in the past. If she is having an off game underneath, they have no one who can replace her in the paint and then Ryle can't get their shooters open on the perimeter. Ryle has some really good outside shooters but unless you can get the ball down low and score to open up the outside game, it's not too hard to defend this team. And when you have to play a team with a post player like Moss without any true post players to help defend her, the outcome isn't going to be a good one regardless who is coaching the team!

 

Oliverio is an excellent coach and even more important, a very good person with the best interest of the girls at heart. Let's do what's right and quit bashing her and everyone else (players, referees, etc.). I commend Oliverio for the ability to motivate her girls to come back from a large deficit against NCC and make a game out of it. This isn't the first time I seen her be able to motivate her team to come back from a deficit. The regular season against Boone was a good come back game as well and they actually got the win that time. It's not easy to motivate a bunch of girls once they fall that far behind in a game! The girls start to shut down, deflate and give up completely unless you have a good coach with excellent motivational skills and Oliverio has shown she definitely has that! So, let's give credit where credit is due and quit blaming or trying to find blame. That would be a welcome change on this site in general!

According to the paper NDA was 15 for 23(65%) in the first half.

I read that in this mornings paper. Myself and a few other were trying to keep track and we had them hitting 15 of 18. Either way they came to shoot last night.

Who does Ryle return?

The only 2 seniors on the team are Abby Jump and Liz Meyer. They have Crittendon, Douthit, Cheeseman and Dixon returning as Seniors. Johnson returning as a Junior. Plus, a couple of good athletes from the JV team.
