Scott Eagles to start a youth football program.

Yeah I am not getting the "spin" on this...............................IF this was a Scott middle school team that only Scott kids would play on it. It sounds more like lets make another team by taking territory from three other teams and call it something...........................

On a side note.........................Anybody else remember the Hawks? the players were from the four Catholic Schools in Newport. (St. Stephen, St. Francis, St. Vincent and Corpus Christi)

There are Scott backers involved. I have heard coach Campbell is all for this and is willing to help where he can. Parts of Covington are in Scott's territory..

One thing that COULD take place...........................If you are taking some of the Raiders territory maybe all those Raiders kids will not be funnelled towards Dixie. With the open enrollment in Kenton County kids tend to want to go play with their buddies which in this case is going to Dixie. IF Scott can get some people into coaching within the organization that could promote Scott then maybe you could see some positive happenings down the road. Bottom line is that Scott, with the open enrollment within the County, needs to make itself a viable football choice. Even if only a few kids each year "choose" to go outside of the territory that they live in, within Kenton County, that all adds up.

The other issue is getting quality coaches. Right now I have heard two names and both will do a great job. That is going to be key......................

Is Scott going to let them use their facilities? Where will the necessary number of kids come from. Sounds like either the other NKYFL teams or the middle school teams will get hurt if this gets going. Unless there is a lot of kids who need a team.

High school coaches are not supposed to be working with nkyfl teams due to the fact that there are so many kids that go to different schools on each of these teams and it could be considered recruiting. It would be different if they where all Scott kids but they are not. So a Lloyd alumni could volunteer his time as well as any Scott coach...Make no sense to me.

Coach Campbell has supported the Raiders in the past, allowing the Raiders to host games at Scott and practice at Scott under the lights late in the season. He has also attends several games during the year. There are also a couple of current and former Raider board members who have been/are volunteer coaches at Woodland and Scott. For whatever reason, not nearly as many kids from the Taylor Mill/Scott High School area play for the Raiders. The Raiders are primarily from the Dixie school district, and even though parts of Edgewood are part of Scott's district, most of those kids end up open enrolling at Dixie. This new team is a way to get more kids from that area involved in football as it will be more convenient for parents to get kids to and from practice, especially those with multiple children participating in other school sports/activities. Getting more kids playing football younger means better numbers for Scott down the road.

Of course this may also hasten the end of the Senior Division in the NKYFL, as it will be tough for the Raiders to field a team now. The senior numbers keep dwindling, and with Beechwood starting a middle school program this year and the success of Tichenor's new program, the Spartans and Lions may struggle with numbers. Ludlow hasn't had a team for a couple of years. The senior division has gotten progressively weaker as much of the talent is playing for the middle schools, especially at Turkeyfoot, Cov Cath and Campbell County who just have huge numbers.

Out of curiosity, can you say who??

There seems to be a lot of people knocking this. However, the most important thing that is being overlooked is that this is giving more kids an opportunity to play. There's nothing bad about this. Yes, it pulls kids from the other teams, but obviously, those teams are ok with it. Also, it's a good move for Scott if they truly do get involved, which they are allowed to. Their head coach might not be able to, but I know assistants can. And finally, as far as hurting the middle school program, they probably won't field a senior team, so it would have zero affect on Woodland's team.

The real key is if they develop all the boys and not just 10-15 sons of the coaches who want their boys to be superstars and themselves seen as the next Vince Lombardi!!

Scott High School has not success with football. The main reason is that they have not had a true feeder program. Around NKY high schools have been going to a true feeder system for there high school. This is a great move for Scott.

This Feeder team also picked up territory from South Kenton and Bengal Tigers. I see The Raiders and Scott Feeder picking up kids who have not played before. The Raiders have always been a strong team in the NKYFL. All teams except Srs were getting 40-50 players. This gives kids in both programs more playing time. I think every high in NKY will have this type of feeder system for their school before long.

I think it is great it gives other kids a chance to play and that is what should be all about with kids just starting football.

I meant with use of facilities..

I know of a couple former SK Lion coaches in the mix for some coaching positions who would do great things to get the program started.
