Why does everyone keep saying that Jack Jennings was a big man. He was only about 6'5" but he did weigh close to 250 in high school so I guess he was a "big" man. Jack didn't just hang out under the basket though. He could shoot it from anywhere but was a strong rebounder that couldn't be moved once he established position.

No disrespect taken here. I agree. I just thought "if" Giesler is the best big man the area has seen since Jennings, how would they stack up? Has there been a better big man since Jennings?? If not, it is remarkable that the best big man the area has seen in 20 years can't be seriously compared to Jack.

How about the 20 years before Jennings? Anyone?

 

As stated before, Geisler is the best this year, but far from one of the tops in the last 20 years, of even 5-10 years for that matter.

 

I'd take the Votel boys from CCH, Brock, Neltner, Derek Smith, Elijah Pittman, and even the Schmidt kid from St. Henry in 03 over Geisler.

Late bloomer. He went off in the 9th region championship game versus Holmes in 1966 and Florida State saw something in him. He was only about 6'5" in high school but grew another 4 inches in college and the rest is history.

He averaged around 30 pts a game in 1988 and scored 68 pts in a game against Newport Central Catholic. Jack went on to play @ Western Ky. and over in Europe for years. While only about 6'5" he weighed about 250 in high school and probably around 275 in college and in Europe. He was a prolific scorer and rebounder who reminded you of Charles Barkley. Here was the line of the Holmes / NCC game where Jack scored 68.

Jake is not the best big man to come out of NCC in the last 5 years. Zach Kiernan was certainly better than Jake imo.

That was a quarter final game, after Holmes beat Buckhorn in round one. I still remember Jack missing a dunk vs Ballard, I swear the ball almost hit the Freedom Hall ceiling.

Ross Votel was not better than Geisler. Could he have been if he didn't blow out his knee to start his junior year? Maybe. All I know is Geisler is better now than Ross was as a senior.

I will have to disagree. Jake has a more well-rounded game.

Giesler isn't better than Jennings but he is better than most of the others listed in this thread. I am surprised so many people are under rating Giesler after what he has done this year. The thing about Giesler that makes him special for me is his play at both ends of the floor. He is very good defensively. And I definitely agree with Clyde that Giesler is better than Keirnan.
