I do not think drinking alcohol is a sin. However I do think that being drunk would be, because it would be taking alcohol in excess. However depending on your beliefs, I think that many would suggest to abstain from alcohol because of perception, as Christians are called to be witnesses and to show the correct path. JMO

If you drink a few beers and wind up drunk, it's not nearly as bad as drinking with the intention of getting drunk. So, if you eat 15 cookies without intending to, it's not the same is if you got the box and sat down intending to polish the whole thing off in a sitting. The sin is in the intention, not the action.

If they're tagalongs, then yes. Those are sinfully delicious. Eating 15 girl scout cookies is probably ok. Eating 15 girl scouts is not in that the sin of murder is specifically forbidden in the 10 Commandments.

I was misquoted by the thread starter...In the Bourbon thread the poster asked if we drinked Bourbon, I said "NO, In fact I'm against all hard drinking, but you didn't ask that question, sorry to hog on here." I never mentioned the Bible in any way or form. I was trying to be funny.

 

Then someone asks me to define hard drinking..."I said opposite of "Soft" again no mention of any thing in the Bible. I said I WAS AGAINST IT, never used a verse. Thought I was being funny.

 

Then another poster got on me for coming onto the thread, remember I said I was sorry for doing so in the first thread...But he couldn't let it go. he said...you use your FLINSY RELIGIOUS REASONS about hard drinking...now where do I use anything scriptual?

 

Now I said I can find some verses about drinking and will, but that wasn't the issue. I was called out. And that wasn't fair.

 

Its really getting sad.

Larry, I enjoy your posts as a whole and have nothing personal against you. In hindsight, perhaps I came across a bit harsh in the other thread, and for that I'm sorry.

 

However, by the same token, I feel you are being a bit hypersensitive about this. I can't really think of any other board member whose posts so frequently focus on religion or view contemporary issues through an evangelical Christian's lens. When you take this into consideration, how could I view your comment about your aversion to strong drink as coming from any angle other than a religious one?

 

Again, however, my use of the phrase "flimsy religious reasons" was harsh, and while it came across as an attack against you, it was not necessarily my intent and has more to do with my living in Kentucky, a state full of hard-line Baptists, and the decades of frustration I've experienced with having those folks exercise too much power over my personal life by beating me over the head with their version of the Bible.
