I have seen Conner play this year. I did not see them having the best talent in the 9th by far. I think going into the season they were way overrated. Conner has some good players that play very hard, but I have seen a lot of other teams that have more talent. Coach Hicks is a very good coach and I'm sure they will continue to work hard and get better. You never know they could make run here at the end of the season. Good luck Cougars.

Having a good JV team is very overated. If the jayvees were that good they would be starting varsity, Any coach who fealt he needed to bench his 6'8 senior has no problem playing the players who need to play.

 

I guess having a good frosh team is also over rated using your same argument.

What is the criteria for being considered a very good coach as has been stated on here over and over again. I am not arguing it, I just want to know what people are baseing this on. My opinion of a very good coach is one that can produce succesful seasons with average to below average talent. Now lets say that the posters on here are correct in saying that Conner was overrated and has at best average talent. Now wouldn't that mean that a very good coach should have a successful season?

I am sure that conner has a great coaching staff. By no means have they given up on the team. If you think about that statement it doesn't even make good sense. Chances are that all of the grumbling is from the lack of performance at the level of expectations the pre-season polls put on the team. When expectations are not met (realistic or not) the average fan does not understand the game enough to know that there are ways of handling the situation. All they know is expectations are not being met and someone must be blamed. It is not thier little Jonny.

You got it, Frosh is also over rated, besides at the end of the day how many schools put JV and frosh regional winners on banners in the gym? BTW, congrats to coach Garnett and those Jayvee Cougars for winning the tournament, no matter what it is always nice to go home with the trophy!

Mr. Scrapper I beleive even the "average fan" would know that this team is more capable than what their record states. And as you say it may be their "little jonny" is just not good enough to achieve expectations. Then why is little jonny still taking the court? Bottom line is this team could be better than 11-15 at this point. Nobody in NKY who knows anything about basketball should be able to argue that. Maybe expectations were set too high, but who sets the bar that low just to say "hey we beat our expectaions" Next year lets shoot for .500.

And.... If you are a talented jockey in the Kentucky Derby and your horse is the pre race favorite but refuses to get out of the starting gate, can that jockey win the race? For those who do not get what I mean, a coach can only coach so much, if the players choose to not perofrm at their ability there isnt much a coach can do. Believe me I think Hicks is trying to win but maybe thsoe players need to look within in themselves for a little insentive, sorry to be so rough on high school kids but there comes a time when they must make up their mind to compete at a higher level, I just hope that it wont be too late for these guys.

Who has Conner been losing to? How many of the 122 losses are to Holmes, Cov Cath, or the other top teams in the 9th? I hate when someone throws out a coaches career record. Go back through the years, take out their record against the top 3 and bottom 3 schools of the region and see what his record is. Then you will have a better measuring stick. Doesn't matter who the coach is at Conner, 90% of the time, they will lose to the top 3 schools in the region. What percentage of his wins are against traditional weak teams as well??

I have no idea. They are a losing team vs. an average schedule over 8 years. Maybe there is a lack of talent in Hebron? Doubt it. They should split with Boone and Ryle every year and that has not been happening. I say that Coach M from Boone is the best coach in the county and it's not even close. Look at his record. Look at the record of the other 3 coaches. Just not impressed with what's going on at Conner even if they beat Ryle for the first time in maybe the last 6 games. They should have beaten Ryle every time they played this year because they have more talent IMHO.
