Maybe the refs were horrible. But come on. Also as bad as some of his teams got homered, Ken Shields never talked poorly about referees. Doubt he would start now.

Didnt have to say a word, just shook his head numerous times but your right didnt say a word. I just stated he would likely agree with my take.

One of the refs seemed to be buddies with Dan Trame as they were having some interesting conversations throughout the game that looked ultra friendly.

My last comment on this will be you had 2 former professional athletes in the stands in Senator Jim Bunning and Cris Collinsworth, you also had the Great Ken Shields there watching his grandson. All 3 I can assure you will give you the same take I am giving you. It got so bad at one point where they called a foul on a WV player when two Highlands players ran into each other getting a rebound and then they said the Highlands player was shooting the ball. We all just laughed and the WV fans became unglued. LOL

I was just going to mention that call. There were many times in both JV and Varsity games that bad calls were made both ways. WV again lost one of leading scorers in the first quarter (Hargett) and still managed to find a way to win.

Does anyone know what happened to the Hargett kid. He has had some bad luck.

With all being said about the refs, what's being left behind concerning HHS, is that they have a long way to go, in what is becoming a short time frame, to be competitive at tournament time.

The best hope for Highlands is to draw away from NCC in the 36th. Then they can make the region tournament where they will be ousted in the first round. Not being mean-just realistic as to how the Birds season will conclude.

Sounds like the problem is that Highlands didn't finish when they had the big lead. Always easier to blame in on the refs than look at all the missed opportunities they had and admit that they just blew it.
As a Highlands fan, I'll say this is probably closest to the truth. Whether you agree with the refs' calls or not, it does a real disservice to the WV players to take anything away from their accomplishment.

Agreed! Bad or good refs are part of the game.

Sour grapes! Good win for the Bearcats and a tough loss for the Birds! Seems like there have been many of them this year!

With all due respect, you might want to attend a game or two before you post in the basketball forum. I gave props to the WV players and team for the win but they clearly had the advantage of shooting more FT's during the game.

Oh they also whistled Sam Lewis (probably the quietest kid on the team) with a Technical foul for laying on the floor too long. LOL

No sour grapes more embarrassing than anything. Good luck Bearcats trying to become another Regional Participant.

Sounds like you werent there and have no clue but to take the easy route and say its a "blame it on the refs" loss. Listen to the WV fans on here, they are even saying how terrible they were. Anytime another teams converts 10+ more FT's than another team attempts there is a problem. Highlands didnt finish but when you call BS fouls to stop the clock and allow WV to score from the FT line without any time running off the clock that is contributing to Highlands' inability to finish.

Obviously you haven't watched many basketball games. There are alot of games where teams outscore their opponents by 10+ free throws a game. Just look in the paper a few days and you will see many of them. Alot of teams capitalize off of their opponents physical play by outscoring them from the charity strip. This game was another example of this.

Don't be embarrassed. Highland's had a big lead and couldn't hold onto it and Walton didn't give up and won the game. Good luck to the Birds trying to become another Regional Participant.

AGREED! I always laugh when people point to the scoreboard and use that alone to point out to the refs that they are not calling a fair game, lol. Also, there was one game I was involved with 7 years ago, we had a good team too, but the other team went to the line 37 times! We only went to the line 6! And guess what, the ref's did a good job at calling the game, every single foul they called on us was the correct call, and the other team just wasn't fouling at all.

Pendleton County lost a game to North Laurel in 2 overtimes this year in which North Laurel shot 46 free throws, and Pendleton only shot 6. The worst part is, North Laurel was probably the more physical team. A difference of 10 in the free throws shot category really isn't much.

I'd bet my life the game wasn't at Pendleton, I've played there many times.
