Featured Replies

The NKMSAA Basketball District/Regional Tournament runs Feb. 7-19

District Brackets are available here..

http://www.nkmsaa.com/basketball

It's been a while since this was discussed, so who are the favorites to win their district and advance to Regionals AND WHY?

Be sure to clarify Grade Level (6, 7, 8) and gender (girls, boys)

Gotta love a little local March Madness in February!!

I really like Ockerman's 8th grade boys team's chances. They get up and down the floor pretty well.

Is it me or is there no teams listed on the bracket sheets.

Heard a rumor that HMS which has three seventh grade girls that one plays freshman, one JV, and one varsity might play in the middle school tournament. I doubt the girl who plays varsity would move down this far but it would make for a interesting tournament.

Not to mention it may be against league rules.

just checked on the site provided the bylaws and yes it is against the rules "Any player that participates for any reason at the high school level in basketball

is automatically ineligible for NKMSAA regular season league games as well as NKMSAA tournament."

Not sure where these rumors originate, but all HMS teams will be playing with the rosters submitted. No high school play-ups will be participating.

Someone needs to update that website.

Who are the favorites in each of Boys Districts in all grades?

This is a post I had put in the NKMSBL thread. It talks about 8th grade boys. The site was updated yesterday with most team records. You can determine most seeds by looking at season results.

NKMSAA.com has just been updated with district and season records for most teams.

Even though some teams have yet to report information, you can get a good idea about seedings for next weeks tournament. The grids are also posted. You can see where and when you might play.

The 8th grade tournament will be fun to watch this year. Last year (as 7th graders) the league was dominated by Ockerman and Holmes. This year it is much more balanced due to the injury to Stanley (Ockerman) and the transfer of McClenden (from Holmes to Holy Cross).

I was told that this years "regional" will consist of the winners and runners-up of each district tournament. It shapes up to be a very competitive 8 team bracket.

District #1 - Camp Ernst, Gray and Ockerman all have had strong seasons

District #2 - Tichenor and Blessed Sacrament should advance

District #3 - Summit View, Twenhofel, and Turkeyfoot. No record for Twenhofel listed--based on other teams records - I assume they are good.

District #4 - Holmes, Highlands, and Campbell Co. -- all three have 3-1 district record, Holmes #1 seed due to overall league record

Lets hope Mother Nature allows all the games to take place as scheduled

* as an added comment, the record for Twenhofel's 8th grade boys team was updated. Nice job boys. 16-1 , maybe they are this years favorite.

Does Holy Cross field an 8th grade team or did McClendon play up with their Frosh?

Not sure, they do not play in the NKMSBL. He would still only be a 7th grader- he played up last year for Holmes.

Look's like Newport is the only school not reporting, for all girl's and boy's. Anyone know what the deal is there? I know they forfeited a couple games they had rescheduled but ended up not wanting to play.

Brackets are now completed on the website. Go to nkmsaa.com to see matchups and game times.

Great job by Mr Jason Steffen organizing and posting the info for the 6 tournaments.

Middle school ball will be coming to an end soon. If there are any 8th. grade boys looking to play competitive basketball though the spring and summer please contact me. We have a couple spots still open on our U14 roster.

NKMSAA District games will continue to be played this week at Immaculate Heart of Mary School. All IHM teams will continue to participate in the tournament, despite IHM students being out of school for Weds, Thurs, and Fri.
