It's NKMSAA Basketball Tournament Time!!

7th grade Grey beat Turkeyfoot and Holmes beat Connor. That Holmes team looks more like Newport than Newport. Dont know how the school system lets kids get kicked off one team and join another.

8th grade Holmes beat IHM and Twenhofel beat Gray.

In girls 8th Grade girls action last night; Conner defeated Holmes and Twenhofel came back to defeat Gray.

Ockerman's 8th grade boys lost their first tournament game of their middle school careers tonight to Summit View, Congrats to Summit View and congrats to Ockerman for the run they had over the last few years.

8th grade boys regional action tonight at Summit View - Tichenor over Highlands 38-34 and Summit View over Ockerman 26-20.

The games tonight gave new meaning to the phrase "let 'em play". In the early game Tichenor held a 25-11 halftime lead. In the second half, the Birds figured out "no blood, no foul". The final score was as close as it ever got.

I stayed for the second game to watch some very talented basketball players play an indoor football game. It was brutal. I guess the boys realized from watching the first game that short of a tackle it was incidental contact.

I really miss watching finesse on the hardwood. Now only the strong survive, even at the middle school level.

In the 6th grade, Blessed Sac defeated Highlands by a wide margin. Game was close early but Blessed Sac pulled away after halftime. Second game of the night had Summit View come from behind early and defeat Ockerman. Sets up a Blessed Sac/Summit View game tonight. Should be a good one.

8th Grade Girls are set for Saturday 5:00 at Conner High School as undefeated Twenhofel goes against single loss Camp Ernst. Should be a good one.

6th grade girls - Gray knocks of Campbell Co; Gators are undefeated heading into championship vs ? Twenhofel

7th grade girls - IHM pulls off last second win by one little free throw with 2 secs left over Woodland.

- Undefeated Connor wins OT against Gray who finishes with 19 wins and only 2 losses this season -

(both against Coonor) This game should have been the Championship!

7th grade boys - Gray beats Holmes, avenging an earlier loss, while Ockerman wins against Blessed Sacrement.

The championship will be a re-match from District #1 finals when the Gators lost to the Hawks.

In the 6th grade boys, Woodland defeated Tichnor and Blessed Sac defeated Summit View. Both game where officated horrible, the Tich/Wood game was brutal. Refs decided not to blow their whistles and Tichnor adjusted and made this game closer than is should have been. Two big threes late in the game by Ohmer sealed the deal for Woodland. Refs where not much better in the second game either, they failed to protect the shooters for either team. You can't let kids get hit while their shooting. In the end it was to much Vanhandorf for the Jags to handled.

Sets up a good game on Saturday Woodland/Blessed Sac. I picked Blessed Sac pre-season and I will stick with it. But Ohmer will have a lot to say about that.

Sounds like the 6th grade games mirrored the 8th grade boys games I witnessed Tuesday night. Physical, physical, physical. The tournament has turned into the style of play of AAU.

Anyone with results from Wednesday night's 8th grade boys games?

It seems like the successful teams are playing a more uptempo style of ball. Holmes and Tichenor both win in the 8th grade games last night.

Most would say that it was a HUGE free throw.

Yes, it was very dramatic! Now IHM is bowing out of championship game? I heard they have girls who have prior commitment to VOLLEYBALL! What?

Holmes can't play any other way but up tempo. They win because they have 3 very talented players.

Tichenor plays hard, have smart guards that don't force shots, have good size to protect the rim and rebound the ball. Tichenor is also coached very well.
