Boone edges Newport in OT By John Lachmann Boone County had gone to overtime three times previously this season, but on Tuesday the Rebels finally won a game that went to an extra session. Junior center Brannen McDonald and sophomore guard Brett Mayberry scored four points each in OT as Boone County clipped Newport, 67-61 to improve to 1-3 on the season in overtime games. The Rebels jumped out to a 10-0 lead, and while the Wildcats never had the lead in regulation, senior forward Marquis Commodore hit a 3-pointer with six seconds left to force the extra period. Stanley pulled up for a 12-footer from the baseline at the buzzer, but it would not fall. Junior forward Hunter Hixenbaugh led Boone County with 16 points, senior Jesse Schulze added 13 and Stanley recorded a double-double as he dished for 10 assists in addition to scoring 12 points.
