I read an article recently about current players that will some day make the MLB Hall of Fame. Some of these players they had listed and some of them are my own opionions. Keep in mind, its not stars of the future that will continue to add to their stats. Its based on if they retired in the next year or two, would they get in when they are eligiable What do you think?

 

Catcher- Ivan Rodriguez (outside chance Jorge Posada)

1st Base - Albert Pujols, Jim Thome (outside chance Todd Helton, Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko, Mark Texeria, Ryan Howard)

2nd Base- Chase Utley, (outside chance Dustin Pedroia)

Shortstop- Derick Jeter, Omar Visquel

3rd Base- Alex Rodriguez, Chipper Jones, (outside chance Scott Rolen)

DH- (outside chance due to being a DH David Ortiz)

 

Outfield- Ichiro Suzuki, Vlad Guerrreo, Manny Ramirez, Jim Edmonds, Andrew Jones, Lance Berkman

 

Starting pitchers- Roy Halladay, Andy Pettitte, Johan Santana, Roy Oswalt, and CC Sabathia (outside chance Tim Hudson)

 

Relief pitchers- Mariano Riveria, Trevor Hoffman (just retiered this week)

Dunn would not make it if he retired in the next two years. However, if he stays on a 35+ pace for 5 to 8 more years he'll cause some to think about it.

Thought the writers said no to PED guys or a secret handshake?

Arod is interesting to me. Imo he'll for sure, 100% deserve to get in, but does he? I think the voters have made it clear that nobody who is linked to roids stands a chance.

 

Personally, I don't think he will.

I know most people quickly discredit Dunn and his accomplishments, but sometime this upcoming year he will surpass 400 career homeruns and with in two years he will most likely be in the top 40 home run hitters of all time.

I'm not sold on CC getting it but the fact is I'm not really high on the Yankees overall so my bias is most likely shining through.

I disagree with Vizquel, Andruw Jones, Jim Edmonds, & Lance Berkman.

 

I'd think a guy like Carl Crawford has a great chance at getting in though.

Of those on the list, the only ones I feel confident about are:

 

Ivan Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, Derick Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Chipper Jones, Ichiro Suzuki, Vlad Guerrreo, Manny Ramirez, Roy Halladay, Andy Pettitte, Johan Santana, Mariano Riveria, Trevor Hoffman

 

That does not mean some of the other guys will not make it, but they still have work to do.

Pudge, Pujols, Thome (being a power guy in the steroids era could hurt), Jeter, Vizquel (guys have got in on defense before), A-Rod, Chipper, Ichiro, Vlad, Manny (it will be a shame if he gets locked out due to steroids), Halladay, Pettite, Johan, Mo, and Hoffman.

I had the discussion with a friend on Hoffman and honestly I don't know if I would vote him in. Having said that, I think having the saves record willl ultimately be what gets him in.

 

Any particular reason you think Mo is more likely get in and not Hoffman? (I share these sentiments)

Mo will get the nod among voters due to post-season success.

ARod, Manny, and Pettite don't stand a chance if the voters don't change their ways.

Which would be a shame. There are tons of players in who popped greenie's. The next thing you know the writers will want to vote players like Willie Mays OUT of the HOF.

I agree with most of your list except:

 

Halladay - way too early on him. He doesn't even have 200 wins yet. He needs about 4 more years like the past one to start feeling solid.

 

Pettitie - Very iffy, at best. I saw an article discussing his Hall possibilities and I believe they stated he would have one of the highest ERA's of any Hall pitcher if he made it. He also has the steroids cloud around him. If it took Blyleven 14 years to get in, no way Pettitie gets in IMO.

 

Santana - Not even in the discussion at this point in his career. Way too much work ahead of him to start thinking Hall. Is Roy Oswalt hall potential? Compare their stats and you might remove Santana from your list.
