Northern Kentucky is the mecca of high school football in Kentucky

Featured Replies

Or at least LexCath coach Bob Sphire thinks so.

"Northern Kentucky is the mecca of high school football in Kentucky," Lexington Catholic Coach Bob Sphire said. "There's tremendous passion for the game, and their teams ooze confidence, because football is king up there."

LCA Coach Paul Rains agreed.

"They take their football very seriously in Northern Kentucky. They've got a nice talent base, a great feeder system and some of the best coaches in the state.

"They kind of set the standard for all of us."

Two more Northern powers to topple

That's a bit strong... I would say that Football is King even more so in Louisville, we just don't have a strong diversity of school size. We tilt heavily to the Big School divisions.

It's always ALL about Louisville :irked:

The title of this thread was "NKY is the Mecca of high school football in KY." Shocking that someone from other than NKY might have something to say about it... :rolleyes:

Technically L'Ville is NKY too, at least if you look at the map its on the northern border!

:D

Ive always felt N KY felt more strongly about football than any other part of the state including Louisville.

Hey now hold on there a second don't be saying the Ville is NKY too :scared: :scared: Ya'll got something in that water up there that I'm not to sure about :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

If both LexCath and LCA win I wonder if the Mountains will be the King of KY Football next week? :D

It is also real important in a thread like this that we stick to the issue and not each other.

Since 1990:

NKY team in the state finals:

1-A

Beechwood = 11

Bellevue = 1

NCC = 2

1-A total = 14

3-A

Cov Cath = 3

Highland = 8

3-A total = 11

NKY total = 25

One division that's set up for dominance does not make you King, IMO. Two divisions of sustained dominance and two more *competitive* divisions makes you King.

***I use the term competitive loosely.

Not counting surrounding county schools that play in Louisville football districts, like Bullit East and Shelby County:

Since '90, I think 21 in 4A.

1 in AAA.

So, 22. Like I said, we tilt a little to the big schools.
