What holes must the Birds fill for next year and who will fill them?

Featured Replies

Since the last thread I started was shot down lets try this one.

Obviously it will be tough to replace Defensive players like Austin Abner, Ty Seidl and Billy Huddleston as well as WR Daniel Gold and RB Corey Compton on offense.

I'd look for Josh Quillen, Jac Collinsworth, Colin Seidl, Ben Streeter, Donovan McCoy, and David Christian to fill some of the void left by the players you mentioned above.

Returning guys like True, Towles, Bruns Brothers, Sheehan, and New will benefit this team greatly as far as leadership goes.

Which sophomore (to be) could possibly make an impact from the very talented frosh team that the Birds had this year?

Returning Aaron Robinson and Austin Trapp on the line, as well as Jason Waldenmeyer is a big plus as everything starts up front in the trenches.

Spring ball should be very interesting.

Just different cogs in the blue machine.

Returning defensive lineman Devin Bruns and Chad Bowden will be huge to start with on the defense. Quillen should be back and hungry along with Carter New and Drake Bruns at the Corners. Replacing Seidl at Safety and Abner at LB will be tough. Chambers should vie for the MLB spot vacated by Huddleston. I also expect Reid Schroder to be in the mix there. Zack Harris a soph next year could also be a nice addition to the defense.

I would look for Quillen to play MLB for Huddelston next year. He is getting bigger already and will be a great fit in the middle. Its going to be important for a leader to step up and take control of that unit. Dont be surprised to see a couple of soph on Def like Hayes at corner and one of those big guys on the d-line.

What happened to Quillen that caused him to miss this year?

Broken leg.

What happened to Quillen that caused him to miss this year?

Broken ankle against Cincy Withrow. He was in on short yardage offense. The only offense he plays and and gets his ankle rolled up on at the end of the play. A terrible blow to the defense early in the season.

Quillen would be a fantastic MLB with a little more weight and muscle. His instincts are unreal and they have been that way since FTJRFL for the Red Team. Will they put Schwietzer the stud Frosh this year a DL or an Offensive Lineman next season? I think he is better suited for offense and the Birds with Bowden and Devin Bruns returning on the DL could maybe go the quickness route with the 3rd DL.

I agree on the bolded part. He did a nice job on D, but really looks like an O lineman to me. The kid who could see some time on the D line is Hope. Tall & lanky - a little Fred Dryer-ish - was a real force from the D tackle spot this year. And of course there's the younger True - another one who did a nice job on D but looks an awful lot like an O tackle to me.
